LG LP0621WSR to LP1021BHSM: capacity, ThinQ and heat

These five LG portable air conditioners share a family resemblance, but differ in rated capacity, connected control, heat mode, cabinet size and drainage plan. Start with the DOE SACC figure and a measured window opening, then decide whether app control or heat is truly essential. A familiar black or white cabinet is not enough to identify the suffix.

Compare the exact configurations

LP1021BHSM10,000 / 14,000 BTU/h450 sq ftThinQ plus 12,000-BTU heating; Heat mode requires a drain hose

The ASHRAE figure is not interchangeable with the DOE SACC figure. If the capacity floor is 8,000 SACC, for example, the two white compact units do not qualify just because their ASHRAE numbers look larger. Manufacturer room areas are estimates; exposure, ceiling height, doors, insulation and equipment change the load.

Start with the room and clear opening

LG lists the 6k and 7k models in a 17.32 × 27.36 × 13.27-inch shell; the LP0821GSSM is 17.52 × 28.15 × 14.56 inches. The two 10k versions rise to 29.33 inches and 15.59 inches deep. These cabinet measurements do not include the bend of the exhaust hose or clearance to reach the filter, outlet and drain. The 10k appliances also weigh more than 76 pounds. Check the route into the room as carefully as the available floor patch.

The exact model-family manuals give a sliding-window range of 18–50 inches for most vertical sliders, or horizontal-slider height. Measure the clear opening where the kit will sit, not the outer frame; sash shape, security hardware and track depth can still interfere. This shared range does not make the cabinets or vent hoses interchangeable. A single exhaust hose must reach the window without being crushed or improvised.

App control and heating are different choices

ThinQ/Wi-Fi is documented for LP0821GSSM, LP1021BSSM and LP1021BHSM. The LP0621WSR/LP0721WSR manual is labelled Non-WiFi, while their product sheets specify an LCD remote and local controls. For the app models, LG’s shared owner manual says the network must use 2.4 GHz. A phone feature is useful only if the home network and desired setup support it; all five models include a local control route.

LP1021BHSM is the only one of these five with a documented Heat mode. LP1021BSSM’s letters look similar but it is a cooling-only model. With the BHSM, the manual says to install the pump-drain hose for Heat operation. Near 32°F outdoor temperature, LG directs indoor drainage to a bucket of at least 28 ounces that must be checked and emptied frequently; above freezing, an outdoor route is allowed with care about where water falls. The sources do not specify a minimum outdoor temperature for the heating mode. Do not use this guide’s label “heating” to infer an unstated winter operating range.

Plan water handling around the mode

These models use a self-evaporating system, but their manuals still describe a collection tank that can fill and stop the unit. Each manual documents a continuous 1/2-inch-ID garden hose at a gravity-drain port for Dry/dehumidifying mode only. That is useful in a humid room but is not a continuous cooling drain. LP1021BHSM’s separate pump-drain hose requirement applies to Heat mode. A single generic “drainable” label hides these important differences.

Filter care is recurring: LG says to clean washable filters every two weeks, more often when they become dirty. The manuals also require a grounded 15-amp receptacle and warn against extension cords, surge protectors and multi-outlet adapters. Leave room to perform those tasks rather than burying a unit behind a couch.

Choose by the need that changes the shortlist

For the lightest listed cabinet and modest capacity, begin with LP0621WSR. The LP0721WSR is the small capacity step-up without a connected-control claim. The LP0821GSSM is the first of this group with both 8,000 SACC and ThinQ. At 10,000 SACC, choose LP1021BSSM for cooling only or LP1021BHSM if its additional Heat mode fits the room and its drain routine. If you require a dual-hose configuration, continuous drainage during cooling, a confirmed inverter compressor or heat operation without the prescribed hose, none of these five satisfies that condition.

Use the portable-AC finder to combine minimum capacity, window span, dimensions, app and heat requirements; then read the exact-model review before ordering. Do not select by an ASHRAE headline, a shared cabinet appearance or an unsourced listing photo.
