A useful fit for

A connected-control step up to 8,000 SACC for a room within LG’s estimate, with a lighter body than the 10k models but more depth than the 6k/7k pair.

The main tradeoff

ThinQ does not add heat or dual-hose exhaust; the 62.9-pound cabinet needs more floor depth, and Dry-mode gravity drainage is not a continuous Cool drain.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Will 8,000 DOE SACC meet the minimum rating I need?

The exact LP0821GSSM sheet lists 8,000 SACC, so it meets an 8,000 threshold and not a 10,000 one.

Can the unit fit an 18-inch slider while using the included panel?

Its exact family manual gives an 18–50-inch range for most sliders, but the track, sash and hose route still need a physical check.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does this model satisfy an app-control requirement?

Yes, LG names ThinQ/Wi-Fi on the exact model materials; the manual requires a 2.4-GHz network and app functions are not independent performance measurements.

Can I require Heat mode for this configuration?

No. The exact LP0821GSSM feature list and specification describe Cool/Dry/Fan, not heating.

The gray LG LP0821GSSM is an 8,000-BTU/h SACC portable air conditioner with ThinQ Wi-Fi, a 13,000-BTU/h ASHRAE headline and a manufacturer estimate of up to 350 square feet. It is a meaningful step above LG’s white 6,000- and 7,000-SACC compact models when connected control and more documented capacity matter, but its larger cabinet weighs 62.9 pounds and still uses one exhaust hose.

Read the capacity and area together carefully

DOE SACC is 8,000 BTU/h; ASHRAE is 13,000. Those are different capacity methods, not interchangeable claims. It meets an 8,000-SACC floor but not a 10,000-SACC requirement. LG’s 350-square-foot figure is an estimated fit, not a measured promise. A bedroom with strong sun or high ceilings can be a different load from a shaded, sealed room of the same area; a connected thermostat does not compensate for undersizing.

The exact product page lists Cool, Dry and Fan, ThinQ app access, Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility, Auto Swing, a 24-hour timer, two fan speeds, Auto Restart and an LCD remote. The app provides an option rather than a substitute for local controls. LG’s manual says the wireless network must be 2.4 GHz; a dual-band network name, router signal or login setup can matter. If you do not want phone control, it can still be operated from its panel or included remote.

It is larger than the 6k and 7k compact pair

The exact sheet lists a 17.52-inch width, 28.15-inch height and 14.56-inch depth, with 62.9 pounds of weight. It is about an inch taller and more than an inch deeper than the LP0621WSR/LP0721WSR case, and several pounds heavier. Check not just the front footprint but the room needed to route the rear hose without a tight bend, remove the washable filter and access the drain. The panel’s casters help on a level floor; they do not make a stair carry light.

Its included slider panel is documented in the model-family manual as fitting most vertical-sliding windows 18–50 inches wide or horizontal-sliding windows 18–50 inches high. That range is not compatible with every sash profile. Measure the clear opening and check the locking track. The single flexible exhaust hose must connect to an outdoor opening, so this is not a dual-hose choice for someone who requires separate intake and exhaust.

“Auto evaporation” does not erase drainage

LG lists a washable filter, a 3.23-pint-per-hour dehumidification figure, dry-air flow of 275 CFM and 52/49 dBA high/low. These are specification-sheet numbers, not independent noise, dehumidification or airflow tests. Power is listed as 115 volts, 1,070 watts and 11.5 amps; the exact manual says to use a grounded 120-volt 15-amp receptacle and not an extension cord or adapter.

During cooling, the product page’s Auto Evaporation feature can reduce how often water needs attention. The manual still describes a collection tank, a “FL” full-tank display and a shutdown until the water is emptied. For high-humidity dehumidification, the manual provides a continuous 1/2-inch-ID garden-hose route in Dry mode only. That is not a cooling-mode continuous drain and no built-in lift-pump route for Cool mode is established in these sources. If the unit will be unattended in a wet room, the drain plan matters more than the label’s reassuring wording. Clean the filter every two weeks or more often if it loads with dust; the exact support record lists one year for parts and labor.

How to choose between this and nearby LG models

Pick the LP0821GSSM if 8,000 SACC, connected LG control and an 18-inch lower slider limit match your room. The LP0721WSR is shallower and lighter but has a 7,000-SACC rating and no ThinQ. The newer LP0823GSSM also lists 8,000 SACC and ThinQ but is a distinct model; its own facts have a different manual window range, so do not assume its parts or installation measurements transfer. For a 10,000-SACC target, consider LP1021BSSM; if you also need heating, the separate LP1021BHSM adds a drain rule that the cooling-only model does not.

It is a poor match if your hard condition is heat, dual-hose exhaust, a continuous drain during cooling, or a confirmed inverter compressor. LG does not call this SKU Dual Inverter in the exact documents examined, so compressor type stays unknown rather than being inferred from the ThinQ badge or the shared brand.
