Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does this 10k rating meet a ten-thousand SACC minimum?
Yes. LP1021BSSM is rated 10,000 DOE SACC and 14,000 ASHRAE; the latter should not be substituted for its DOE value.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I require ThinQ control?
Yes. The exact model page, spec and manual identify ThinQ/Wi-Fi; the app works over a 2.4-GHz network per LG’s manual.
Explore this need in the finder →Will a 30-inch maximum cabinet height fit?
Yes. The exact sheet lists the body at 29.33 inches tall, so it fits a 30-inch ceiling; it would not pass a stricter 29-inch maximum.
Explore this need in the finder →Does a Heat requirement select LP1021BSSM?
No. It is the cooling-only BSSM configuration; the separate BHSM code is the one LG documents with Heat.
Explore this need in the finder →The black LG LP1021BSSM is a 10,000-BTU/h SACC, Wi-Fi-enabled portable air conditioner for buyers who want that capacity and ThinQ control but do not need heat. Its 14,000-BTU/h ASHRAE headline is a different rating method; the configuration is Cool, Dry and Fan, not a heating unit. The very similar model code LP1021BHSM has a real extra capability, so the last letters matter.
Do not let the ASHRAE headline set the threshold
LG’s specification sheet gives 10,000 BTU/h DOE and 14,000 BTU/h ASHRAE, with an estimated cooling area of 450 square feet. Compare using the DOE figure when applying a SACC minimum: the model qualifies at 10,000 but not at 12,000 SACC. The stated area is not a guarantee for your room. Sun through large windows, warm adjacent spaces, ceiling height, insulation and heat from computers or cooking can move the actual load in either direction.
The exact product page identifies the LP1021BSSM and lists ThinQ, voice-assistant compatibility, a remote and local control, an auto-swing outlet and a 24-hour timer. LG’s exact manual cover includes LP1021BSSM alongside two related models and says ThinQ requires a compatible network; it only supports 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi. Phone control is optional, not proof that the unit will join a particular router. The product page and 3-in-1 spec list Cool, Dry and Fan. They do not show Heat for this suffix.
Measure the tall, deeper cabinet and the opening
The unit is listed at 17.72 inches wide, 29.33 inches tall and 15.59 inches deep, with a 76.1-pound listed weight. It is a substantial floor appliance, and its rear connection and hose need more room than the cabinet depth alone. Leave a route that avoids crushing the single exhaust hose, plus access to the washable filter and lower drain. Casters help reposition it across a level surface; they do not change the weight when lifting.
The shared model-named manual gives an included window panel kit range of 18–50 inches for most vertical sliders or horizontal-slider height. Measure the track’s clear opening, account for locks and the sash shape, and check that the installed kit and hose can remain secure. The label “most windows” is not a universal fit promise. This is a single-hose design; if a dual-hose layout is essential, reject it rather than count the smaller return air gaps as an alternative.
Self-evaporation has practical limits
LG’s sheet lists 3.4 pints per hour dehumidification, 310 CFM dry airflow and 53/50 dBA high/low. They are manufacturer figures, not independently measured values. The electrical section gives 115 volts, 1,210 watts and 12 amps. The manual calls for a grounded 120-volt, 15-amp receptacle and warns against extension cords, surge protectors and multi-outlet adapters. Make the electrical check before moving a 76-pound unit into a corner.
The maker promotes an auto-evaporation system, but the exact manual still describes a collection tank: a full tank shows “FL” and stops operation until drained. It also documents a continuous gravity garden-hose connection in Dry mode only; do not treat that as continuous water removal during Cool mode. The lower drain must be reachable when emptying. LG recommends cleaning the washable filters every two weeks, sooner when they collect dust. The exact LG support record lists a one-year parts and one-year labor warranty.
The BSSM and BHSM are not interchangeable
Choose LP1021BSSM if the 10,000-SACC tier and app controls matter, but adding heat is not. It is not a dual-hose model and the exact materials do not identify its compressor as inverter, so an essential Dual Inverter condition cannot be satisfied by assumption. The LP1021BHSM shares the nominal 10,000/14,000 cooling class and connected features but adds 12,000-BTU supplemental heating. That extra mode is not free of setup work: its manual requires a pump-drain hose when Heat is used. If you only need a compact room unit, the smaller LP0821GSSM trades capacity for a lighter cabinet; if the lower 18-inch window endpoint matters with a lighter case, compare the LP0721WSR.
Make the decision using a model label, a measured opening and the exact mode you expect to use. Nothing in LG’s documents is an independent sound, cooling-speed, app-reliability or operating-cost test, and the 450-square-foot estimate does not replace sizing for the actual heat load.
