Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does this XP model meet a 10,000-BTU/h SACC cooling minimum?
Yes. Whynter's exact page and shared manual list 10,000 BTU/h SACC; they do not establish 12,000 SACC.
Explore this need in the finder →Can it provide heat when heating is essential?
No. The exact ARC-1050XP is cooling-only; the XPH is the separate heat-pump suffix.
Explore this need in the finder →Can its setup satisfy a dual-hose requirement?
No. The page describes this model as a single-hose configuration.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the page/manual CEER of 7.9 meet an 8.0 exact-label minimum?
No. The listed 7.9 is below the 8.0 minimum, and the exact yellow-label value is unverified because the linked EnergyGuide returned 404.

The Whynter ARC-1050XP is a step up from the ARC-0850XP on DOE-style cooling capacity: the current product page and shared model manual list 13,500 BTU/h ASHRAE and 10,000 BTU/h SACC, against 12,000 and 8,000 for the smaller model. Whynter's 500-square-foot room estimate is useful as a broad screening clue, not a promise. Sun, ceiling height, air leaks, room connections and heat-producing devices change the load. For a model comparison, treat 10,000 SACC—not the 13,500 ASHRAE headline—as the meaningful cooling threshold.
It stays single-hose and has no heater
The suffix matters less than the basic plan: the ARC-1050XP is a single-hose portable AC with Auto, Cool, Fan and Dry modes. There is no heat mode. It is an option when a larger cooling rating than the ARC-0850XP is needed but the window and room can work with one exhaust hose. The 5.9-inch hose must connect securely to the included window panel; a clear outside exhaust path and a well-sealed opening are still part of the installation. A single-hose unit is not a dual-hose model just because it has several adapters or a smart app.
Whynter lists app control through NetHome Plus, Alexa and Google Home compatibility, a handheld remote, a 24-hour timer, swing louvers and sleep settings. These are manufacturer-published controls; they do not demonstrate that a phone connection is necessary for basic cooling or that an app will improve the room's actual temperature. The manual describes three selected fan speeds and Auto, with a continuous-fan override available in Cool or Dry. There is also an I Sense remote-sensor feature in the manual, but it is not active in Dry or Fan mode and depends on the remote being within range. If your priority is simple cooling rather than remote scheduling, treat the connected features as optional.
Water and filters still need a plan
Whynter says the self-evaporating design disposes of condensate in most conditions. That does not remove the need to keep the drain accessible: high humidity can fill the collection tray, trigger P1 and stop cooling or drying until excess water is removed. The manual describes a lower manual drain and an upper gravity-drain hose for continuous removal in Dry mode. Gravity requires a downward route; it is not a lift pump. It also calls for washing the reusable filter every two weeks. Carbon-filter guidance is inconsistent within the same manual, which mentions both three-to-six months and two-to-three months for replacement. Check the current instructions and replacement filter rather than assuming an exact service life.
Published dimensions and label efficiency are unresolved
The current product page lists a cabinet of 17.7 × 14.17 × 29 inches and a 70-pound net weight. The newer shared manual instead lists 17.5 × 14 × 29 inches and 68.3 pounds. Those differences leave physical clearance and lift-weight rules uncertain; do not use either source as a precise promise for a tight alcove, stair carry or shelf. The current page gives a 28-to-82-inch three-piece slider kit; its older exact listing uses a 28.3-inch minimum, while the manual explains panel assembly and shortening without publishing a maximum. Whynter's current page and manual agree on 10,000-BTU/h SACC, cooling-only modes, one hose, a 115-volt supply and R-32 refrigerant. Both print CEER 7.9, but the exact ARC-1050XP EnergyGuide link on its older Whynter page returned 404 during this review. That leaves an exact-label CEER unknown for a strict efficiency filter. Noise values differ as well: the page says below 51.5 / 52.5 / 54 dBA by speed, while the newer manual's table gives 51 / 52.5 / 54. These are manufacturer claims, not independent room measurements.
The listed electrical draw is around 1,560 watts and 11.9–12 amps at 115 volts, but the product manual says to use a grounded wall outlet and not an extension cord. The product page describes a one-year warranty with three years on the compressor; the manual explains the compressor as two additional years beyond the first year. Those are published terms, not a prediction of service life.
Choose between the siblings by one real difference
The ARC-1050XP is the straightforward choice in this small family when 10,000 SACC is needed and heat is not. Choose the ARC-0850XP if 8,000 SACC is enough and a smaller capacity tier better fits your load. Consider the ARC-1050XPH only if heating is genuinely useful and you can route its required hose during Heat mode; its cooling rating is not higher than this XP model. If your installation requires two separate air paths, compare the ARC-1030WN, a different dual-hose inverter design, instead of assuming that Wi-Fi implies an inverter compressor.
This assessment uses Whynter's current exact-model page, the page's shared 2026 manual and its older exact-model listing. No cooling, noise, energy or durability test was performed. Verify the model suffix and current package before relying on physical fit or a purchase offer.
