Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does the 8,350-SACC LP0825WSSM meet an 8,000-BTU/h DOE minimum but fail a 10,000 minimum?
LG lists 8,350 BTU/h SACC. That clears 8,000 but not 10,000; its separate 12,000 ASHRAE figure is not interchangeable.
Explore this need in the finder →Will the included kit fit a 20 1/2-inch vertical or horizontal opening?
The LP0825WSSM manual span starts at 20 1/2 inches and ends at 39 15/16 inches in the measured opening direction.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the exact WSSM manual confirm heating?
No. The exact family manual documents Cool, Dry and Fan for LP0825WSSM; a heat requirement should select a separately documented heat SKU.
Explore this need in the finder →The LP0825WSSM is LG’s 8,350-BTU/h SACC single-hose portable AC, with ThinQ control and a manufacturer room-area estimate of up to 350 square feet. It sits between the compact 2026 PG models and the larger 10,200-BTU/h LP1025WSSM in LG’s 2025 WSSM line. Treat the area figure as a starting point, not a promise for a sunny, open or poorly insulated room.
The useful comparison is SACC, not the older headline
LG lists 8,350 BTU/h under SACC and 12,000 BTU/h under the older ASHRAE method. Those are not additive ratings and should not be compared as if they were measured the same way. If you need at least 8,000 BTU/h SACC, this model clears that threshold; it does not meet a 10,000-BTU/h SACC minimum. The next WSSM size, LP1025WSSM, is listed at 10,200 SACC and up to 450 square feet. That extra capacity may help when the room load justifies it, but it does not mean the larger unit is automatically the better fit for every smaller room.
Before deciding by floor area, consider direct afternoon sun, ceiling height, open doors, insulation and heat-producing equipment. LG’s 350-square-foot estimate applies to its stated conditions, not every apartment or home office of that size. If the room is near the upper edge of the estimate or is connected to other rooms, size against the heat load rather than the square-foot label alone.
Three cooling modes, connected control, and no confirmed heat
The exact LP0825WSSM page lists Cool, Dry and Fan operation, an adjustable thermostat, remote control, multiple fan speeds, an auto-swing outlet, a 24-hour timer and Auto Restart. LG also advertises ThinQ app control, schedules, energy-use monitoring and Alexa/Google voice control. This is therefore more connected than a basic remote-only portable model, but the phone feature does not change the unit’s capacity or its need for an outdoor exhaust route. The manual explains that some app functions vary by model and that a compatible home Wi-Fi connection is required; treat the phone as an added control option, not an independent cooling system.
Heating is not listed among this model’s three operating modes. The exact family manual names LP0825WSSM and LP1025WSSM and documents Cool, Dry and Fan, while LG’s separate H-suffix LP1025WHSM listing describes a four-mode heat model. Do not read “portable AC” or a similar model number as evidence of heat-pump operation. If heat is essential, compare a separately documented heat model, such as the reviewed Midea MAP14HS1TBL, rather than selecting this unit on a vague family resemblance.
Measure the window and the hose path first
The LG manual names one flexible vent hose, a diffuser and an included panel set. That is a single-hose installation, not a dual-hose arrangement. Its window kit is specified for most vertical-sliding openings 20½ to 39 15/16 inches wide, or horizontal-sliding openings in the same span when measured vertically. Measure the actual sash opening, and leave room for the cabinet, the hose and the airflow clearances in the instructions. The range is not a guarantee that every sill shape or window frame will accept the panels.
LG recommends keeping the hose as short and straight as possible. The manual cautions against replacing or extending it with a hose that was not designed for the product, and shows the diffuser positioned to avoid the sill. A suitable window opening is only one part of the setup: the cabinet must sit close enough for the hose to reach without crushing a bend or blocking an inlet.
The electrical instructions specify a grounded 120-volt receptacle on a 15-amp circuit. They warn against extension cords, surge protectors and multi-outlet adapters. Check the outlet and circuit before moving the appliance into place; do not treat a convenient nearby plug as proof the installation is electrically suitable.
Water and filter care are part of normal ownership
LG describes a self-evaporative system that recycles condensate, but the manual still explains how to drain the internal collection tank. When the tank is full, the display shows FL and the unit shuts off until it is emptied. In high humidity, a garden hose can be connected for continuous drainage in Dry mode only. That is useful if you plan to dehumidify for a long stretch, but it is not a no-maintenance cooling promise or a lift pump that can send water uphill.
The two filters should be cleaned every two weeks, more often if the room is dusty. The manual allows washing a heavily soiled filter with warm water and mild detergent, then drying it in the shade before reinstalling it. Keep access to the lower drain and filter handles in mind when arranging furniture. Casters help roll the appliance on a level floor; the sources reviewed do not establish a safe carrying weight or exact cabinet dimensions for a stair route.
Who should choose it?
Consider the LP0825WSSM when its 8,350-BTU/h SACC tier matches the room, the measured window falls within the manual’s span, and ThinQ plus remote control are useful to you. Choose the smaller LP0626PGF only when 6,000 SACC is sufficient and basic remote control is enough; choose its PGSF counterpart if you want a compact connected option. Move up to the LP1025WSSM only when the extra rated capacity is useful and its published area estimate better matches the actual load. For a required dual-hose setup or verified numerical efficiency threshold, use the questionnaire’s setup and exact-label filters rather than assuming this single-hose model meets them.
LG’s current product page uses qualitative quiet-operation language, but no exact dBA figure, cabinet dimensions, product weight or EnergyGuide CEER was established for this review. These unknowns should not satisfy a strict sound, clearance, carrying or efficiency requirement. There are no independent cooling measurements here, and app responsiveness in a particular home has not been tested.
