Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does the 5,000-BTU/h SACC rating meet your minimum, or do you need the 6,000 tier?
Danby’s exact page labels this 5,000 SACC (the 7,500 headline is ASHRAE). It meets a 5,000-SACC minimum but not a 6,000 minimum.
Explore this need in the finder →Can your setup use the documented single exhaust hose, or is dual hose essential?
The exact page and model manual identify one exhaust hose and a hung/sliding window kit. A dual-hose requirement is incompatible.
Explore this need in the finder →Must the appliance provide heat as well as cooling?
The exact control-panel manual lists Cool, Fan and Dry only. It does not document a heat mode.
Explore this need in the finder →Is app control a must-have, or is a handheld remote enough?
The exact page documents electronic controls and a remote, but the exact source set does not confirm wireless app control. An app-essential request should not treat unknown as yes.
Explore this need in the finder →Can you accept an uncut window panel span that has not been numerically confirmed?
The manual permits cutting a slider for a shorter opening but provides no numeric uncut endpoints in the inspected instructions. A strict opening-span requirement needs confirmation.
Does the 52.2-pound listed unit weight fit your handling limit?
The exact sheet lists 52.2 pounds. A 53-pound limit accommodates the listed cabinet weight; 52 pounds does not.
Explore this need in the finder →Will the 26.36-inch cabinet fit under a 27-inch maximum?
The listed body is 26.36 inches high, so it clears a 27-inch body-only ceiling, though airflow space must still be added.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you require continuous gravity or pump drainage rather than a manually emptied pan?
The exact manual explains the bottom-plug pan drain but does not clearly document a model-specific continuous hose route or pump. Neither gravity nor pump is confirmed as a hard requirement.
Is a CEER label threshold of at least 8 essential?
The exact EnergyGuide prints CEER 6.2; its separate specification sheet prints 6.1. Either is below 8, and the small discrepancy is preserved rather than rounded away.
The Danby DPA050E2BDB-6 is the black finish of Danby’s small single-hose portable AC family. Danby labels it 7,500 BTU/h by the older ASHRAE figure and 5,000 BTU/h SACC on the current U.S. product page. Those numbers do not describe the same test method. The page estimates cooling for a room up to 150 square feet, which is useful for screening a small bedroom or office, not a guarantee for a sunny top-floor room or a space with high ceilings and heat-producing equipment.
Compact cabinet, modest cooling tier
The exact specification lists a 12.6-by-12.6-inch footprint, 26.36-inch height and 52.2-pound unit weight. That is a materially smaller and lighter cabinet than Danby’s DPA065B6WDB-6, which is rated at 6,500 SACC and listed at 63.7 pounds. The DPA050’s castors help roll it across a level room; they do not make it an easy stair carry. Measure the actual travel route and the space needed to turn the cabinet before assuming that a compact footprint solves every installation problem.
The unit still needs room to breathe. Its model-named manual calls for 17.7 inches of clearance at the front and sides and 20 inches behind. It also needs a grounded outlet close enough for its own cord. Those clearances can make a narrow alcove unusable even when the cabinet itself fits. The manual says not to use an extension cord or share the wall outlet with another appliance.
Read the capacity and efficiency documents separately
The product page describes the DPA050 as 5,000 SACC and the manual covers cooling, fan and dry modes. Its EnergyGuide identifies this exact SKU, gives a capacity line of 5,150 BTU and CEER 6.2; the separate specification sheet prints CEER 6.1. The energy label is the relevant source for a label-CEER comparison, but the slight specification-sheet difference is worth preserving rather than rounding into a confident efficiency ranking. Neither figure establishes a likely utility bill for a particular home. The EnergyGuide’s standardized assumptions are not the same as your hours, climate, electricity rate or room heat load.
Installation and day-to-day operation
This is a single exhaust-hose design, not a dual-hose model. The exact manual supports hung and sliding windows and shows an included multi-piece slider kit; it permits cutting a panel for an opening shorter than one individual slider. The sources reviewed here do not publish numeric uncut minimum and maximum endpoints. If your window opening is a hard constraint and you do not want to cut the kit, confirm the panel span with Danby before buying. The manual also warns against overextending or sharply bending the exhaust hose.
The control-panel section lists only Cool, Fan and Dry. In Cool, the manual sets a 64–90°F temperature range and calls for the exhaust hose. Fan mode does not need the exhaust hose. A general FAQ on the product page discusses Auto and heat drainage across Danby’s product line, but those statements do not establish that either feature belongs to this SKU; neither appears in the exact three-mode control list. Dry-mode hose wording is not cleanly model-specific: the manual’s drain section explains the bottom-plug tank, while the page FAQ gives general advice about dry-mode draining. Do not treat this as a verified gravity-drain or pump-drain installation. When the internal pan fills, the manual says the unit stops cooling or dehumidifying and shows “Ft”; the user must shut it off, unplug it and drain the lower plug.
The manual recommends cleaning the filter every two weeks, more often in homes with pets. The listed electrical values are 115 V, 8.5 A and 753 W. The exact page advertises a remote and 24-hour timer; it does not establish app control, an inverter compressor or a heat mode. Those missing features should remain unmet if one is essential rather than being inferred from similar-looking Danby models.
When the smaller model is the right trade
Choose the DPA050 when its 5,000-SACC tier is enough for the measured room, a compact black cabinet is useful, and the one-hose window setup and pan-drain routine are acceptable. The DPA065B6WDB-6 is a step up at 6,500 SACC with a larger white cabinet and documented gravity drainage for Dry mode. The DPA072B8WDB-6 moves to 7,200 SACC and app/Follow Me control, while the DPA086B8BDB-6 is 8,600 SACC and similarly adds connected features; both are much heavier. See the DPA065 review, DPA072 review, DPA086 review and Danby capacity-and-setup comparison before trading portability for more published cooling capacity.
Danby lists a 24-month parts-and-labor warranty on the exact page. I would not choose this unit solely because the room estimate says 150 square feet, the product title shows 7,500 BTU or a listing displays a sale marker. The decisive questions are whether 5,000 SACC suits the actual load, whether the cabinet and required clearances fit, and whether you can manage the drainage method the exact instructions actually document.
