A useful fit for

A small room where a 5,000-BTU/h SACC tier is adequate, the standard slider kit fits, a single exhaust hose can reach the window and the owner accepts weekly filter care and occasional drainage.

The main tradeoff

It is the lighter, lower-capacity member of the exact two-model manual family. The same support article lists 860 W and 7.6 A running load versus BP06PWA's 1,050 W and 9.5 A, but no exact EnergyGuide CEER comparison proves greater efficiency. It cannot meet a 6,000-SACC, heating, pump or documented-app requirement; cabinet depth is conflicted and should be checked against the actual unit before a tight fit.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Is a 5,000-BTU/h SACC model enough for your room's heat load?

BP05PWA is the 5,000-SACC option and the manual pairs it with up to 150 sq ft. It meets a 5,000 minimum, not a 6,000 minimum; sunlight, insulation and internal heat can require a different size.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does your slider opening fall inside the standard panel range?

The standard adjustable range is 27.5–47.2 in. The manual allows shortening a panel below 27.5 in but gives no numeric minimum after cutting, so the finder only treats the documented range as a confirmed fit.

Can you provide a drain route if a humid spell fills the reservoir?

The manual describes auto evaporation in cooling but warns of an E2/full-tank stop in high humidity. It includes a drain hose for gravity drainage; there is no documented lift pump.

Must this exact appliance also provide winter heat?

No. Its support article and named manual describe air conditioning, dehumidifying and fan operation; the heat-essential answer must reject it.

The BLACK+DECKER BP05PWA is a small-room, 5,000-BTU/h SACC portable air conditioner. Its higher 8,000-BTU ASHRAE number is a different rating method, not extra DOE cooling capacity. The shared manufacturer manual associates the 5,000-BTU model with rooms up to 150 square feet, but that is a sizing guide rather than a guarantee: direct sun, high ceilings, poor insulation, open doors and heat-producing equipment can change the load substantially.

Choose the 5,000-SACC tier only when it fits the room

For a compact bedroom, office or similar room, BP05PWA keeps its proposition simple: Cool, Dehumidify and Fan modes, a remote, a washable filter and a 24-hour start/stop timer. The 40.8-pound body is the lighter of the two models named on the same manual. Four casters help reposition it on a smooth floor, but they do not remove the work of lifting it over a threshold or carrying it up stairs.

The first questionnaire choice that changes the result is cooling capacity. A 5,000-SACC minimum admits BP05PWA; a 6,000 minimum does not. The larger BP06PWA adds 1,000 SACC and the manual's 250-square-foot estimate, while weighing about 4.4 pounds more and carrying a higher listed power input. That does not prove which uses less electricity in a home: neither exact EnergyGuide CEER is established here. If the room's load is near the top of the manual estimate, do not assume the smaller model will compensate by running longer or that a larger rating guarantees comfort.

Plan the window and single exhaust hose

BP05PWA is a single-hose design. In Cool and Dehumidify modes, the manual says to connect the exhaust hose and its window outlet; in Fan mode, disconnect the hose. It is not a dual-hose arrangement with an independent outside-air intake. Keep the hose as short and straight as the installation allows, avoid sharp bends, leave room for the cabinet's air openings and seal the remaining window gaps. The cooling setup depends on a workable route outdoors; a narrow casement or an unusually wide opening is not confirmed just because the unit rolls easily.

The exact manual lists a standard slider-panel range of 27.5 to 47.2 inches for common vertical or horizontal windows. It permits cutting one panel when the opening is shorter, while warning not to cut away the hose opening. Because it gives no minimum opening after that modification, the finder treats below 27.5 inches as an unconfirmed fit rather than promising a numerical lower limit. The cabinet is 13 inches wide and 26.77 inches high in the manual. Its depth is unresolved: the manual rounds it to 11 inches, while the exact support and store listings say 11.2. For a tight alcove, measure the specific unit and include clearance for the hose and airflow.

Evaporation helps, but does not remove water planning

BLACK+DECKER describes auto evaporation. In ordinary cooling, the manual says the reservoir usually does not fill, but high humidity can trigger an E2/full-tank stop. The same manual shows how to drain intermittently through the bottom cap or use the supplied hose for continuous gravity flow to a floor drain or drip tray. Dehumidify mode is the one for which the instructions specifically recommend continuous drainage. There is no documented lift-pump route. The draining choice is therefore practical: if a gravity outlet can stay below the drain connection, the hose can take some carrying out of the routine; if not, the owner still needs a safe way to empty the water and reseal the plug before cooling resumes.

Controls, power and routine care

The support listing advertises three cooling and three fan speed levels; the model-named manual's remote instructions identify High and Low selectable speeds, so this review does not rely on a precise speed-count difference. The remote also lists sleep and timer functions. The manual gives a 61–88°F setting range and says Cool and Dehumidify performance is specified for 64–95°F room conditions. Fan runs without the exhaust hose and without an adjustable temperature. There is no documented heat mode, app control or named inverter feature; if connected control or winter heat is essential, this is the wrong configuration.

The support article lists 860 watts, 7.6 amps while running and 33 amps at start-up; the manual states 115 V/60 Hz and requires a properly grounded outlet. It prohibits an adapter or extension cord. Before choosing, check the actual receptacle and the manufacturer's electrical instructions rather than using a thin power strip to bridge a distance. The washable filter has a more frequent care burden than some models: BLACK+DECKER says to clean it every week of operation. It also gives a one-year labor and one-year parts warranty for manufacturing defects, subject to listed exclusions.

Who should compare something else?

Choose a better-documented higher-capacity model if 5,000 SACC is below your room's requirement, a different exhaust arrangement is essential, or a pump must lift condensate upward. A connected model such as the Midea MAP06S1JWT-B is in the 6,000-SACC tier and has documented app control, but it is a different model and setup. The LG LP0525WFR is an earlier 5,000-SACC reference with different installation and drainage instructions; do not transfer its details to BP05PWA. Match the exact suffix on the rating plate and the seller listing.

The manufacturer's U.S. product record marked BP05PWA unavailable in the checked October 2026 snapshot. That is not a live stock guarantee for other sellers. Before considering an older offer, confirm that its model label says BP05PWA, that the panel, hose and remote are present, that the drain pieces are intact and that condition and warranty terms suit you. This assessment is based on product documentation, not an ownership trial or independent cooling test.
