A useful fit for

A modest room with a heat load suited to 5,100 SACC, an opening inside the shared 20 1/2–39 15/16-inch kit span, and an owner comfortable with a single hose and manual tank emptying.

The main tradeoff

This is the lighter, lower-input choice versus the LP0625WFR, but its 5,100-SACC ceiling and 150-square-foot LG estimate may not fit a higher heat load. Its exact EnergyGuide CEER is 6.2, and it has no documented app, heat, pump or continuous-drain feature.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Is 5,000 BTU/h DOE/SACC enough, or do you need the next 6,000-SACC tier?

The LP0525WFR's exact LG sheet lists 5,100 SACC. It clears a 5,000 minimum but must be excluded at a 6,000 minimum; its separate 9,000 ASHRAE figure is not substituted.

Does your window opening fall inside the included panel span?

The exact shared owner manual lists 20 1/2–39 15/16 inches. An opening at the documented lower endpoint fits; 40 inches is outside the listed maximum.

Do you require app control or heat from this appliance?

The exact specification lists no Wi-Fi, and the model's modes are Cool, Dry and Fan. An app- or heat-essential choice must reject it.

Can you accept a single exhaust hose and a tank that needs manual emptying?

Its named manual describes one flexible hose and an FL shutdown when the internal tank fills. No pump or continuous drain route is established for this exact model.

The LG LP0525WFR is the smaller of the two 2025 WFR portable units covered here: LG rates it at 5,100 BTU/h SACC, lists 9,000 BTU/h under the older ASHRAE method, and estimates cooling for rooms up to 150 square feet. Those figures are not interchangeable. The DOE/SACC number is the one to use when comparing portable-air-conditioner capacity. The area figure is LG's planning estimate, not a promise about a sunny, open or poorly insulated room.

Start with the 5,100-SACC ceiling

This model makes sense for someone whose room and heat load suit a small portable AC and who has no hard requirement above 5,100 SACC. It is not a safe “small-room” shortcut if a 6,000-SACC minimum is essential: even though its label separately says 9,000 ASHRAE, that older-method rating does not clear a 6,000-SACC threshold. In the finder, choosing the 5,000-BTU minimum can include the LP0525WFR; moving to the 6,000 setting should remove it. If you need a little more documented capacity, its same-family sibling, the LP0625WFR, is rated at 6,000 SACC and carries a larger 250-square-foot estimate. Neither area label accounts for your particular ceiling height, solar gain, air leakage or heat-producing equipment.

The LP0525WFR is a single-hose, cooling-only unit with Cool, Dry and Fan modes. Its control panel and included remote are straightforward; LG's exact 2025 specification sheet says no Wi-Fi connection and no auto swing. That is useful if local buttons and a remote are all you want, but it is not the right configuration when app control or heat is a must-have. Do not interpret its WFR model code as evidence of features that the specification sheet does not list.

Measure the opening and the route, not just the floor area

The exact bilingual owner manual cover names both LP0525WFR and LP0625WFR. It identifies a flexible vent hose and an included sliding-window kit. The kit fits most vertical-sliding windows from 20 1/2 to 39 15/16 inches wide, or horizontal sliders with the same clear height span. A window outside that range is not a confirmed fit; choose a different documented panel or a different unit rather than assuming the plastic sections can be stretched. Foam seals and a security bracket are included, but the opening, track and sash must still be measured where the panels will sit.

Placement also depends on the route from the appliance to the window. LG says the supplied hose is designed for this product and should not be replaced or extended with an unspecified hose. Keep the route short, avoid sharp bends and preserve the room clearances shown in the manual. The cabinet itself is listed as 11 inches wide, 26.6 inches high and 11.4 inches deep, weighing 38.8 pounds. These dimensions help with floor-space planning; they do not include the extra room needed for the hose, airflow, filter access or a person moving around it.

The manual calls for a grounded 120-volt, 15-amp receptacle and warns against extension cords, surge protectors and multi-outlet adapters. LG's specification sheet lists 115 volts, 780 watts and 6.9 amps for cooling. Treat those as the unit's published ratings, not a substitute for checking the circuit and receptacle against the manual. The casters help reposition it on a suitable level floor; they do not make a 38.8-pound appliance convenient to carry up stairs.

Water handling is a real ownership task

The exact manual describes a water collection tank. When the tank is full, the display shows “FL” and cooling stops until the appliance is drained. The procedure is more involved than attaching a garden hose: unplug the AC, disconnect its exhaust hose, move it to an appropriate drain or outdoors, remove the bottom drain cap and empty the tank. The documentation reviewed does not establish a built-in lift pump, continuous gravity outlet or automatic-evaporation promise for this exact WFR configuration. Do not select it to satisfy an essential pump or continuous-drain requirement just because another portable AC from the same manufacturer offers one.

The removable filter should be checked and cleaned every two weeks, more often if indoor air is dusty; it can be vacuumed or washed gently and must dry in the shade before reinstalling. The manual also gives an intended operating range of 70–95°F and 45–78% relative humidity. That is an operating envelope, not a measured cooling promise at every boundary.

Energy, sound and alternatives

The exact EnergyGuide carries LP0525WFR's 5,100-BTU capacity and CEER 6.2; LG's spec sheet reports the same efficiency value. That label does not meet a strict CEER-8 threshold. The energy-cost figure printed on an EnergyGuide is a standardized estimate based on its stated electricity rate and use schedule, not a prediction of your utility bill. LG's specification sheet places “54/50” beside a High/Mid/Low dBA heading without a clear three-speed mapping. Because that notation is ambiguous, it should not be used to certify a hard sound ceiling, and it is not an independent sound test.

Consider the LP0525WFR when the 5,100-SACC tier, compact listed cabinet, simple remote control and measured window span all suit your plan. Move up to the LP0625WFR if the documented 6,000-SACC threshold or its larger area estimate is more appropriate, while noting its greater listed weight and higher electrical input. Look beyond both WFR models if you need a dual-hose design, app control, a heat mode, a pump or continuous drainage, a CEER of at least 8, or a window range outside the shared manual limits. The LP0525WFR's exact sources support those boundaries; they do not establish real-room cooling, actual sound, current retail availability or personal ownership experience.
