Model comparison

Compare Midea Duo 10,000-BTU and 12,000-BTU configurations

Six Midea Duo model numbers in this comparison use a portable, window-vented format, but the cooling labels, cabinet, efficiency, heat capability and lifecycle are not interchangeable. Start by separating the two 10,000-BTU configurations from four 12,000-BTU configurations, then check the exact suffix, window opening, floor space and maintenance plan.

At a glance: two 10,000-BTU choices and four 12,000-BTU configurations

The black MAP12S1TBL and gray MAP12S1TGR-S are listed at 10,000 BTU DOE and up to 450 square feet. The black TBL measures 19.53 inches wide, 16.73 deep and 32.48 high, weighs 72.75 pounds, and has a 14.7 CEER EnergyGuide label and a one-year listed warranty. The gray TGR-S is shorter and lighter at 17.44 by 13.74 by 28.66 inches and 55.12 pounds; its exact label lists CEER 12.3 and its listing says two years. These are useful differences if height, carrying weight or a label threshold is more important than the black unit's nominal efficiency ratio.

The base black MAP14S1TBL is a distinct 12,000-BTU DOE Duo. Midea says it suits spaces up to 550 square feet and lists a 19.53-by-32.48-by-16.73-inch cabinet, 74.96-pound weight and one-year warranty. Its exact EnergyGuide gives CEER 12.3. There is a small listing wrinkle: the page's generic metadata headline says “10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner,” while the model-number field, body and matching guide name MAP14S1TBL at 12,000 BTU. Match the SKU and label rather than shopping from that generic headline. It is cooling-only.

The separate black MAP14S1TBL-A is also listed at 12,000 BTU DOE and up to 550 square feet. Its listed weight is 73.85 pounds; its exact CEER was not established in the reviewed source set, so do not transfer 12.3 from the base MAP14S1TBL. The page says Heat: No. Despite the shared color, capacity and cabinet dimensions, MAP14S1TBL and MAP14S1TBL-A remain separate identities.

The black MAP14HS1TBL is the heat-pump version, not an alternate color label for either cooling-only black model. It is also listed at 12,000 BTU DOE and 550 square feet, weighs 77.16 pounds, and its exact EnergyGuide gives CEER 14.2. Its model-named manual requires a drain hose during heating and lists a 41–86°F heat-pump operating range. Heat adds capability and an ownership task; it does not make the appliance a general-purpose heater for colder weather.

The white MAP14AHS1TWT is an earlier, no-longer-available 12,000-BTU heat-pump model. Its exact EnergyGuide lists CEER 12.3. It has the same listed cabinet dimensions and weight as the black MAP14HS1TBL, but its separate SKU has its own model-named manual. Keep it for an existing unit or a specific older offer rather than treating it as a current default choice.

Which difference matters most?

The gray TGR-S is the only one of these six models with a listed height under 30 inches. A 44-page shared MAP-family manual copy explicitly names MAP12S1TGR-S and gives a 19.1–63.8-inch window-kit span and two-week filter-cleaning interval. This copy is hosted by a third party, not directly linked in the exact Midea product page's empty manuals widget; its direct Midea-hosted origin and exact retail-carton contents remain unconfirmed. The exact product page does confirm that a mounting kit is included. Measure your actual opening and verify the seller's documents rather than assuming a similar cabinet guarantees fit.

For higher cooling capacity, compare the two cooling-only black MAP14 models with the heat-capable MAP14HS1TBL. The base MAP14S1TBL has an exact 12.3 CEER label; the MAP14S1TBL-A CEER remains unknown in the current evidence; the heat-capable MAP14HS1TBL label says 14.2. Do not convert a CEER difference into a guaranteed power-bill saving, and do not let an unknown value satisfy a strict efficiency requirement. The 10,000-BTU black MAP12S1TBL label is 14.7, but its lower capacity means it answers a different sizing question.

One product family, several distinct installation plans

Midea describes the Duo models as using a hose-in-hose dual-hose layout with inverter operation. The product pages list connected control, but verify the exact product's supported app and voice functions instead of assuming every SKU has identical software. The advertised 42-dBA sound figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independent measurement. All six need a suitable window route, clearance around the cabinet and hose, and a grounded outlet; the tall black models are still large, heavy appliances even with casters.

The manual whose cover names MAP14S1TBL gives a 19.1–63.8-inch window-kit range and a two-week filter-cleaning reminder. The base model's exact page and EnergyGuide establish its rating; the family manual supports shared installation and care details. The gray TGR-S manual copy is qualified as noted above. Each exact heat model adds a drainage obligation during heat-pump use; cooling-only models should not be matched to a household that requires heat.

Keep earlier heat configurations in their lane

A separate white predecessor, MAP14HS1TWT, is named in a Midea Duo family manual and appears on an exact Costco product page, but no exact EnergyGuide was located in this review. Its DOE capacity and CEER remain unknown. Do not borrow figures from the later white MAP14AHS1TWT. Compare MAP14HS1TWT only for an existing unit or a specific offer, and verify the exact rating plate before using any performance filter.

Heating changes the drainage plan

For MAP14HS1TBL and MAP14AHS1TWT, the exact model-named manuals require a drain hose during heat-pump operation. They also describe a 41–86°F heat-pump range and direct the owner to use hose insulation foam if condensation forms on the hose exterior in heating mode. Plan the drain route before choosing a location. If you do not want to route water during heat use, choose a cooling-only model only when heating is not essential.

What to verify before ordering

Check the full code on the product, EnergyGuide and any seller listing. MAP14S1TBL, MAP14S1TBL-A and MAP14HS1TBL all wear a black Duo cabinet, but they differ in labels or modes. The earlier white MAP14AHS1TWT and MAP14HS1TWT are not substitutes for one another, and unknown capacity or CEER cannot pass a hard minimum. Read the corresponding review for dimensions, exact documentation and limits; follow the portable AC buying guide for room sizing and use the finder to check required heat, measured window span and physical limits. A room-area statement is never a guarantee of cooling performance.

Measure the room and opening before you shop.
