LG WFR 5,100 vs 6,000 vs 8,000 SACC: match capacity and window fit

Three LG WFR portable air conditioners cover different room and installation needs. The LP0525WFR is rated at 5,100 BTU/h SACC, the LP0625WFR at 6,000 SACC, and the LP0825WFR at 8,000 SACC. Compare those DOE/SACC numbers with one another; the larger ASHRAE figures use a different test method and are not a substitute for a higher SACC requirement. Each LG room-area figure is a planning estimate, not a cooling guarantee for a particular house.

Capacity is the first split

LG estimates the LP0525WFR for up to 150 square feet, the LP0625WFR for up to 250 square feet and the LP0825WFR for up to 350 square feet. A room with afternoon sun, tall ceilings, poor sealing or heat-producing equipment can need more capacity than its floor area alone suggests. Select the minimum SACC that fits the actual load; do not pick the smallest number because the cabinet looks compact, or rely on the ASHRAE value to meet a DOE threshold.

The LP0525WFR has the lowest documented SACC and lightest cabinet of this trio: 38.8 lb and 11 × 26.6 × 11.4 inches. The LP0625WFR adds 900 BTU/h SACC, a larger area estimate and weight of 43.4 lb in a similar 11 × 26.6 × 11.4-inch body. The LP0825WFR is the 8,000-SACC option; its LG-authored sheet lists 51.7 lb and a 11 2/9 × 27 1/2 × 13 1/5-inch cabinet. Its extra capacity comes with a taller, deeper and heavier unit, so cabinet clearance and stair handling still count.

Measure the opening against the exact manual

The window-kit spans are not interchangeable. The LP0525WFR and LP0625WFR share a manual that specifies 20 1/2–39 15/16 inches. The exact LP0825WFR manual instead lists 26 9/16–48 7/16 inches. For vertical sliders, measure the opening width; for horizontal sliders, measure clear height. These instructions do not establish a fit for casement windows. An opening below the minimum or above the maximum is a real mismatch, not a small inconvenience to solve by forcing the plastic panels.

All three use one flexible exhaust hose and include a slider kit. Route the hose without extending it with an unspecified replacement or blocking the unit’s air path. The LP0825WFR manual additionally says to keep its hose short and straight and describes shaping the window end so rain or condensation can drain outward. These are different manuals, even though the model codes share WFR; use the manual for the exact number on the appliance.

Water handling is a second difference

The LP0525WFR and LP0625WFR manual describes an internal collection tank. When full, FL appears and cooling stops until the owner empties the tank through the bottom outlet. That pair does not have a confirmed gravity-drain or pump route in the documentation reviewed. The LP0825WFR has the same kind of manual tank procedure, but its exact manual also documents an upper port and hose over a drain or bucket for continuous cooling during high humidity. That is a gravity route, not a lift pump. If a built-in pump is essential, none of these three facts supports selecting an LP0825WFR on that basis.

Choose the version that matches the installation

Start with the 5,100-SACC LP0525WFR when its room estimate, narrower window span and smaller cabinet align with the room. Move to the 6,000-SACC LP0625WFR when the next documented capacity step is important and the shared manual range fits. Consider the 8,000-SACC LP0825WFR when the room load merits that tier and its larger minimum-to-maximum window span is suitable. Do not assume “more powerful” means “better fit”: the 8,000 model weighs more and requires a wider opening at the low end.

For any of these, cooling still depends on exhausting heat outside. The exact LP0825WFR sheet lists 1,050 W and 9.5 A; the manuals call for a grounded 120 V, 15 A receptacle and warn against extension cords, surge protectors and multi-outlet adapters. Filter care is also similar: the WFR manuals call for checking and cleaning filters about every two weeks, more often when the room is dusty. A persistent app or heating requirement points away from these cooling-only configurations; the separate LP0825WSSM review covers a connected model. For dimensions, window endpoints and water routes, use the exact model review and corresponding owner manual rather than a nearby WFR name.
