Model comparison

LG WFR portable ACs: 2024 vs 2025 window kits and capacity

LG used the WFR suffix for two different generations of white, cooling-only portable air conditioners. The 2024 LP0524WFR/LP0624WFR pair and the 2025 LP0525WFR/LP0625WFR pair are not interchangeable, even where the capacity label is close. Before comparing any offer, identify the entire model code, use the DOE/SACC figure for cooling thresholds, and measure the window opening that will actually receive the panel.

Four exact models, two different slider ranges

The 2024 models come from the owner manual whose cover names LP0524WFR and LP0624WFR. It describes interchangeable panel sections for 18–50-inch vertical- or horizontal-slider openings. The later compact models use their own LP0525WFR/LP0625WFR manual and a narrower 20 1/2–39 15/16-inch opening range. A 20-inch slider opening is inside the 2024 range but below the later kit's minimum. At 45 inches, the reverse applies: the 2024 panel may span it, while 45 inches exceeds the later kit's maximum. Neither printed range establishes a casement-window installation.

Use the smaller tier only when the room can use it

For a documented 5,000-SACC threshold, LP0524WFR clears the minimum and LP0525WFR provides 100 additional SACC. For a 6,000-SACC need, the two LP06 models qualify and the LP05 models do not. Their ASHRAE figures come from another method and cannot rescue a model that misses a SACC requirement. Likewise, “up to 150 sq ft” and “up to 250 sq ft” are LG estimates, not room-specific guarantees. Sun, insulation, ceiling height, connected space and internal heat should influence the size choice.

The dimension pattern also helps resolve a tight-floor question. The two 2025 compact cabinets are narrower and shallower, and their listed weights are lower; LP0525WFR is 38.8 lb and LP0625WFR 43.4 lb, compared with 47 lb and 54 lb for the 2024 pair. In contrast, the 2024 slider kit is the one documented to span a 45- or 50-inch opening. Choose based on both the exact room opening and cabinet movement, not on the year or family letters alone.

The operating routine stays simple—and has real limits

Each exact manual describes a single flexible exhaust hose and local Cool, Dry and Fan modes, not a dual-hose system. The 2024 manual says not to extend or replace its specified hose with an unspecified one. Both 2024 models use an internal water tank: when full, FL appears and the unit stops until the bottom reservoir is emptied. Their manual does not establish a continuous gravity drain or built-in pump. The compact 2025 pair also has a manual tank routine. Do not choose one of these four if a pump or uninterrupted gravity-drain route is essential unless you verify that requirement in a separate exact-model source.

None of these four suffixes is a heat model, and the cited exact WFR sheets list no Wi-Fi for the cooling-only products. A local remote and timer are useful, but they do not meet an app-control requirement. The exact LP0624WFR product page describes automatic restart minutes after a power return; the shared owner manual still advises switching mode off and waiting three minutes after an outage before restarting. Follow the manual's electrical procedure.

Two evidence cautions before buying

LP0524WFR is missing from LG's current 22-row U.S. portable-AC directory and its old product URL now returns 404; a dated search cache is not a current stock check. Treat it as an earlier reference model, and verify any seller's exact label and condition. LP0624WFR is the separate current-directory 2024 item. The LP0625WFR product-page headline has a 14,000-BTU/h ASHRAE figure that conflicts with its model-specific specification sheet, EnergyGuide and gallery text; the latter sources say 10,000 ASHRAE, while the 6,000 SACC figure is stable. Keep that dispute open and use the independently consistent SACC value for a capacity threshold.

For model-specific drainage, electrical and controls details, read the individual reviews linked above. A larger SACC number cannot compensate for an out-of-range window, a 54-pound carry, a prohibited outlet arrangement or a water route the exact manual does not document. No current price, seller stock, personal ownership or independent room test is asserted in this comparison.

Primary sources: LG's LP0524WFR support record and LP0624WFR support record, the LG owner manual naming both 2024 models, and the exact LP0525WFR and LP0625WFR product pages plus their model-named manual and specifications. The LP0524WFR's old product page is not live, so its cached stock notice is not used as current availability.
