LG LP0524WFR 5,000-BTU SACC portable air conditioner review

Earlier U.S. cooling-only, single-hose portable air conditioner with an LG-estimated 150 sq ft range, a manually drained collection tank, remote, and an included slider-window panel rated for 18–50 inch openings.

A useful fit for

A reference choice for a modest room whose heat load fits a 5,000-SACC portable AC and an owner considering a specific earlier LP0524WFR offer, with an 18–50 inch sliding window and willingness to empty the bottom tank when full.

The main tradeoff

The earlier LP0524WFR's strongest practical distinctions are its 5,000-SACC tier, 47-lb listed weight, 18–50 inch slider panel and simple local operation. Its old LG page is no longer live, current retail availability is unknown, and the exact manual describes only tank drainage. If 6,000 SACC is essential, the current-directory LP0624WFR is the adjacent 2024 alternative; if a lighter or narrower cabinet matters, compare the separate 2025 compact LP0525WFR rather than treating the similar WFR suffix as the same unit.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do you need at least 5,000 or 6,000 BTU/h DOE/SACC?

LP0524WFR has a 5,000-SACC rating on its exact LG page and model sheet. It meets the 5,000 tier but misses a 6,000 minimum; its 7,700-ASHRAE figure is not substituted.

Does the sliding opening fit the 18–50 inch kit?

The cover-named manual supplies panel combinations for 18–50 inches in vertical or horizontal sliding openings. A casement window is not established by that range.

Explore this need in the finder →
Do you require a continuous drain or lift pump?

The exact manual describes FL shutdown and bottom tank emptying. It does not document a pump or continuous gravity hose, so a hard need for either is not confirmed.

Do you need Wi-Fi, app control or heat?

The exact sheet says Wi-Fi No, and the exact model materials list Cool, Dry and Fan only; neither app control nor heating is supported for this configuration.

The LG LP0524WFR is the smaller-capacity member of LG’s 2024 white WFR portable-AC pair: 5,000 BTU/h under the DOE/SACC method, a separate 7,700-BTU/h ASHRAE figure, and a manufacturer estimate of up to 150 square feet. Treat those as three different pieces of information, not a guarantee that this cabinet will cool any 150-square-foot room. A sunlit top-floor bedroom or a space joined to a hot hallway may ask more of a portable AC than a shaded, enclosed room of the same floor area.

Is 5,000 SACC enough for your room?

The LP0524WFR is a reference option when a modest cooling tier is sufficient and an exact older-model offer is under consideration. It does not meet a 6,000-SACC minimum. Its 7,700 BTU/h ASHRAE figure is not comparable to a 6,000 SACC requirement; SACC already accounts for the portable-unit test method that better represents delivered cooling. LG's 150-square-foot estimate is useful as a rough scale, but heat from windows, ceilings, computers, insulation and air leakage still matters. If the room is larger, open to other spaces or unusually exposed to sun, compare a properly sized higher-SACC model rather than assuming the area label is enough.

This is a cooling-only single-hose appliance. Its manual identifies Cool, Dry and Fan modes: Cool runs the compressor, Dry removes humidity without additional cooling, and Fan circulates room air without running the compressor. There is no documented heating mode, dual-hose intake/exhaust arrangement, or Wi-Fi connection. The local control panel and remote are practical if that is all you need, but this model is a poor fit when app scheduling, heat or separate outdoor intake is essential.

Window planning is a distinctive part of the 2024 pair

The cover-named LG manual for both LP0524WFR and LP0624WFR describes a surprisingly broad 18-to-50-inch vent-panel range for vertical- or horizontal-sliding windows. It includes several extension sections, weather seals and a security bracket. Measure the clear opening where the panel will sit, not the outside frame. That range does not establish a casement-window installation. The manual asks you to keep the flexible exhaust hose as short and straight as possible and says not to extend it or substitute an unspecified hose. It also shows how to secure the diffuser and seal gaps around the window assembly; the supplied kit and a good seal are part of the setup, not optional details.

LG's sheet lists a cabinet about 11 4/5 inches wide, 26 3/8 inches high and 13 4/7 inches deep, with a 47-pound weight. Casters help on a level surface; they do not remove the lifting issue at stairs or thresholds. The newer LP0525WFR has slightly more listed SACC but a lighter, shallower cabinet and a narrower documented panel range, so a narrow room opening or a frequent carry can matter more than the tiny capacity difference. Do not treat those similar-looking model codes as interchangeable.

Power, controls and water handling

The LG specification sheet lists 115 volts at 60 Hz, 795 watts and 8.0 amps; the owner manual separately calls for a standard grounded 120-volt, 15-amp receptacle with a 15-amp time-delay fuse or circuit breaker. It prohibits extension cords, surge protectors and multi-outlet adapters. Follow the manual's outlet and plug instructions rather than reading the lower nominal voltage as permission to use a power strip.

The manual gives a 60–86°F setpoint range and describes High and Low fan speeds, a one-to-24-hour timer, and a clean-filter reminder. It recommends cleaning the washable filters every two weeks, more often if the room air is dusty. The documented operating environment is 70–95°F and 45–78% relative humidity. These are manufacturer limits, not a promise of the same performance at every boundary. The specification sheet also lists 2.0 pints per hour dehumidification at a stated 26.7/19.4°C test condition; that is not a daily household moisture-removal forecast.

Do not mistake an auto-evaporation claim in LG's earlier product material for a promise that water never needs attention. When the internal tank fills, the exact manual says FL appears and the unit turns off until it is drained. The specified procedure means unplugging the unit, disconnecting the exhaust hose, moving it to a suitable drain or outdoors, and emptying the bottom outlet. The manual does not document a continuous gravity-drain hose or an integrated lift pump for this model. If you cannot manage a tank shutdown, do not count on the undocumented drain options to solve it.

What the documentation does—and does not—settle

The model-specific sheet lists 6.1 CEER, R32 refrigerant and one year of parts-and-labor warranty. We did not locate an exact LP0524WFR EnergyGuide, so the EnergyGuide-only efficiency field stays unknown; the spec-sheet CEER should not be used as if it were that label. LG prints “53/51” under a High/Mid/Low/Sleep dBA heading, but two numbers do not clearly map to four settings. That is not enough to promise a bedroom-friendly decibel level. No independent cooling, energy, sound, reliability or room-size test is claimed here.

The old exact LG product URL now returns 404, and LP0524WFR does not appear in the archived current 22-model U.S. LG directory. An older cached LG result showed an out-of-stock notice, but its date is stale; that does not tell you whether a current seller has a new, used or remaining unit. Treat availability, condition, price and any purchase identity as things to verify for the exact code. For an active current listing, compare the LP0624WFR if 6,000 SACC suits the room, or the current LP0525WFR if a smaller cabinet is more important. The LP0524WFR is worth considering only when the exact product, 5,000-SACC limit, window fit and manual tank routine match a specific offer.
