Haier QPCA09YZMW vs QPCA10YZMW vs QPCA12YZMW

These three earlier Haier portable air conditioners are covered by one 2021 owner/install manual, but the exact model pages give separate cooling and physical specifications. The QPCA09 is 5,600 BTU/h SACC / 8,500 ASHRAE and an estimated up to 250 sq ft; QPCA10 is 6,700 SACC / 10,000 ASHRAE and up to 350 sq ft; QPCA12 is 8,200 SACC / 12,000 ASHRAE and up to 450 sq ft. Use SACC when a DOE capacity threshold is a hard condition. Neither the ASHRAE figure nor a manufacturer floor-area estimate is a substitute for the other, and none promises a particular room temperature.

Choose by threshold, then the real handling trade

QPCA09 is the only one of the three at the 5,000-SACC questionnaire tier: it clears 5,000 but misses 6,000. QPCA10 reaches 6,000 and misses 7,100. QPCA12 reaches 8,000 and misses 10,000. This means the best answer can change at a threshold; picking a model only from its larger ASHRAE headline produces the wrong comparison. If a room’s cooling minimum is above these limits, compare another exact reviewed configuration instead of assuming the QPCA area label guarantees performance.

The physical differences are material. QPCA09’s listed cabinet is 24.7 × 15.2 × 14 inches and weighs 51.6 lb; QPCA10 and QPCA12 share a 28.5 × 17 × 14.1-inch cabinet but weigh 59.5 and 68.3 lb respectively. Their input increases from 860 to 980 to 1,150 watts. Haier lists sound levels of 54/56 dBA for QPCA09, 53/55 for QPCA10 and 55/57 for QPCA12 (low/high). Those are manufacturer figures, not independent room tests or energy-bill predictions. The exact product pages list EER values 6.4/6.8/7.3; a verified CEER comparison is not available here.

Installation is shared; placement and water handling still matter

All three exact configurations use one exhaust hose and the same 20–46-inch standard window-kit span; Haier lists a 4.75-inch minimum opening height and five-foot exhaust hose. The manual warns not to extend the hose. Measure the clear opening, slider pieces, room route and available clearance before selecting a cabinet. The manual’s spacing text conflicts: a placement instruction asks for 30 inches around the unit, but another installation passage says 20 inches. These reviews keep a conservative 30-inch allowance and do not assume the smaller figure is sufficient.

The pages describe Cool, Dry and Fan functions, automatic evaporation under most conditions, washable filters, remote and timer. The manual still documents a full-water alert and a lower manual drain, so evaporation is not a guarantee of zero water handling. The available exact family instructions do not confirm a pump or continuous gravity drain. If a no-attendance route is essential, these three should not pass that condition; a pump or a drain route from a similarly named Haier model must not be transferred.

Haier marks all three as no longer manufactured. Treat them as earlier references for an existing appliance or a specific older offer, not current-stock recommendations. The practical comparison is straightforward: QPCA09 for a lower capacity need and smaller cabinet; QPCA10 for a 6,000-SACC threshold without the QPCA12’s mass; QPCA12 only where 8,000 SACC is needed and its 68-pound lift, larger input and extra noise claim are acceptable. They are not choices for essential heating, dual-hose exhaust, or verified SmartHQ control; app compatibility remains unresolved in the exact SKU detail.

For individual assessments see the QPCA09YZMW review, QPCA10YZMW review and QPCA12YZMW review. The distinct QPCA08JAMW, QPCA10YBMW and QPCA14YZMW pages were observed separately but remain unreviewed until their exact model support/manual facts are adjudicated.

Source basis: exact Haier pages and GE/Haier support records for the three models, the linked 49-5000468 Rev. 1 family manual, and the archived official 2021 GE Appliances Air & Water catalog.
