Model comparison
BLACK+DECKER BP05JWAWF vs BP05PWA vs BP06PWA: capacity, app and window fit
These three BLACK+DECKER portables occupy a close capacity band, but their useful differences are more practical than the headline number: connected control, window-panel span and weight. Start with the DOE SACC rating that fits your room. Then check the actual window opening and decide whether a smartphone app is worth the extra setup. No model gets a blanket win on efficiency or noise here; exact CEER and sound claims are not established consistently across the three source sets.
| Model | Documented SACC | Listed cabinet weight | Documented distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| BP05JWAWF | 5,100 BTU/h | 46.52 lb | Wi-Fi/app and voice control; standard panel 29.5–59 in |
| BP05PWA | 5,000 BTU/h | 40.8 lb | Lowest listed weight; standard panel 27.5–47.2 in |
| BP06PWA | 6,000 BTU/h | 45.2 lb | Highest SACC of these three; standard panel 27.5–47.2 in |
Do not choose from the ASHRAE headline
The BP05JWAWF’s manufacturer support page gives both 5,100 BTU/h SACC/CEC and 8,000 BTU/h ASHRAE 128. The latter is not a higher DOE rating; it uses another test method. The BP05PWA is listed at 5,000 SACC and the BP06PWA at 6,000 SACC in their exact support records. So the WAWF is only 100 SACC BTU/h above the BP05PWA and 900 below the BP06PWA. If your minimum is 6,000 SACC, the WAWF is not a fit. If you need to choose between the two near-5,000 models, decide whether documented app control is worth more to you than the PWA’s lower listed weight. These figures cannot tell you how fast any one room will cool; insulation, sun, ceiling height and internal heat still matter.
The window range can be the deciding feature
The standard slider range for the BP05JWAWF is 29.5–59 inches. The BP05PWA/BP06PWA manual gives 27.5–47.2 inches. That makes the PWA pair the documented standard fit for a 27.5–29.4-inch opening, while the WAWF is the only one of these three with a listed standard span beyond 47.2 inches and up to 59 inches. Between 47.3 and 59 inches, it has a useful fit advantage—provided the opening type and track can hold its included kit. Its manual says panels can be cut below the standard minimum but gives no numerical lower endpoint; a cut panel is not a guaranteed universal solution. Measure the clear travel of the window sash, then measure hose routing and nearby outlet access before committing to a model.
App control versus simple daily operation
The WAWF is explicitly listed with a BLACK+DECKER phone app and Alexa/Google voice control. Its owner manual describes account registration, Bluetooth-assisted setup and network pairing. That is the reason to prefer it if turning the unit on remotely is genuinely useful. A remote control and panel remain available. For the two PWA models, app capability is not confirmed in their exact product records; do not substitute the WAWF’s Wi-Fi facts just because the cabinet and brand are similar. If connectivity is optional, the simpler PWA review may suit your priority better. If it is essential, the WAWF is the only positive evidence-supported match among these three.
Weight and drainage deserve a real plan
The BP05PWA is the lightest at 40.8 pounds, followed by the BP06PWA at 45.2 and the WAWF at 46.52. All have casters, but the nearly 47-pound smart model is not a carefree choice for someone who regularly has to carry the unit over stairs or lift it into storage. The three manuals describe automatic evaporation for ordinary cooling plus a gravity hose option for drainage; that should not be confused with an integrated lift pump. In humid conditions a tank can still fill and stop operation. The WAWF manual recommends continuous drainage in Dry mode, while the shared PWA manual gives that same practical drain option for its named models. Check whether a gravity drain can descend to a floor drain or tray before making dehumidification a frequent use case.
Short version
Pick the BP06PWA when the 6,000-SACC tier is necessary. Pick the BP05PWA when 5,000 SACC is adequate and the lowest documented weight or a narrower standard opening matters. Pick the BP05JWAWF when 5,100 SACC suffices, your opening fits its longer standard panel range, and app or voice control matters enough to justify account and Wi-Fi setup. All three remain single-hose portables, and none should be selected on an unverified CEER, sound, pump or room-area assumption.
