Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does AP0822CW1W meet the cooling threshold I need?
Its exact model sheet lists 8,000 BTU/h SACC. It meets a 8,000-BTU/h minimum but not a higher 12,000-BTU/h choice.
Explore this need in the finder →Will AP0822CW1W fit a measured slider opening at an endpoint of its manual panel range?
The linked instructions describe 18–50 inches for a vertical slider width or horizontal slider height. The panel configuration changes by opening size; verify the drawings and do not extrapolate beyond that range.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I require app control without accidentally selecting a heater?
Hisense lists ConnectLife app control for this model, but the configuration is cooling-only. It can fit an app-required cooling shortlist, but the same unit must not be used to satisfy an essential heat requirement.
Explore this need in the finder →Does AP0822CW1W add heat to cooling?
No heat mode is listed for this model; its three documented modes are Cool, Fan and Dehumidify. A heat-essential request should reject it.
Explore this need in the finder →Can AP0822CW1W drain condensate continuously without a lift pump?
Hisense describes self-evaporation in ordinary use, but the linked instructions permit a gravity hose from the upper drain port for Dry/Dehumidify in high humidity. That port is not used in Cool or Fan, and no integrated pump is documented.
Explore this need in the finder →The AP0822CW1W is an earlier Hisense portable AC rated at 8,000 BTU/h under DOE/SACC and estimated by Hisense for rooms up to 350 square feet. The title of its product page says “300 SF,” but the same page’s description and the exact model specification sheet give the higher 350-square-foot estimate. I use the model sheet’s SACC rating for comparisons and treat the room-size number as a rough manufacturer guideline, not a guarantee. A hot attic room or a space that opens into other rooms can need more capacity than the floor-area label suggests.
A modest step up from the 7,000-SACC AP0722
The AP0822’s main practical distinction from the AP0722CW1W is a 1,000-BTU/h increase in SACC, a 50-square-foot increase in the claimed room area, and a heavier cabinet. It is a more sensible candidate if your room load is closer to the upper end of the manufacturer estimate or you need a documented 8,000-SACC minimum. It is not the better choice simply because “8,000” looks larger: for a smaller or less demanding room, the added capacity and weight may not improve your day-to-day setup. The finder keeps it out when you require 10,000 BTU/h SACC or more.
Hisense lists Cool, Fan and Dehumidify modes, with ConnectLife app control, a remote and compatibility with Alexa and Google Assistant. There is no heat mode for this cooling-only configuration. Dehumidification can help with damp air, but it is not a substitute for heating and it does not make the appliance a dedicated whole-home dehumidifier. The specification sheet gives 35 pints per day under its listed test condition; that is a laboratory rating, not the amount you should expect every day in a particular home.
Single-hose installation is the real setup boundary
This configuration vents through a single duct, listed at about 60 inches long. It does not have a separate intake hose; the window kit is for the exhaust route. The exact Hisense instructions say not to extend, replace or modify the hose and to keep it from being pinched or sharply bent. They also advise at least 20 inches of clearance around the unit so air can circulate and specify a grounded three-prong outlet. Do not plan around an extension cord or adapter; the manual explicitly rules those out. Measure the outlet-to-window route first and leave room for the bends the unit actually needs.
The included window panel system is described for vertical sliders 18 to 50 inches wide or horizontal sliders 18 to 50 inches tall. It uses a set of extensions to cover different spans. Check the manual’s layout for your opening instead of assuming that every opening between those endpoints takes the same assembly. The model sheet lists the cabinet at 16.93 inches wide, 27.36 inches high and 12.80 inches deep, weighing 63.9 pounds with the included kit. That is about 5.5 pounds more than the AP0722. If you expect to move it between floors, account for its weight and the manual’s warning to use at least two people for moving and installation.
Water handling is mode-dependent
Hisense describes the system as self-evaporative and “drain-free” in normal use: condensed moisture is reused at the condenser and expelled through the exhaust. That does not mean the machine has a pump or can never need emptying. The manual includes a lower drain procedure for a full container or storage and an upper-port hose setup for the Dry/Dehumidify mode in high humidity. The upper port is not used in Cool or Fan modes. For extended Dry mode, you need a gravity path with the hose end below the unit; an elevated drain is not a confirmed pump arrangement. Empty and dry it as directed before storage rather than assuming that normal self-evaporation handles every situation.
Controls, efficiency and sound claims
The app and remote are useful when the unit is awkward to reach, but they do not compensate for the room’s heat load or for a window kit that does not seal. The filter is removable and washable. The manufacturer specification sheet gives a 50–53 dBA range, which is a published product figure rather than an independent sound test. Its CEER is listed as 7.2 on the specification sheet. A CEER figure is useful for comparing ratings, but it is not a personal utility-bill estimate; sunlight, thermostat setting, air leakage and operating hours matter too.
Timer support is not clear enough to count as an essential feature here. The exact specification release says “Timer: NO,” while the linked family-use manual shows a remote-controlled timer. If your schedule depends on automatic starts or stops, check the exact model’s remote and on-unit controls before buying. This review does not use a timer promise to make the model a match.
Who should keep it on the list?
The AP0822CW1W is a reasonable earlier-model candidate for someone who wants an 8,000-SACC, single-hose unit with app control and can accommodate a window slider in the documented range. Its extra capacity matters most when it crosses a real requirement: for example, where a 7,000-SACC model would miss a hard minimum. Choose the AP0722 if 7,000 SACC is sufficient and lower weight matters more. Neither is a fit for a required heater, built-in lift pump or dual-hose layout. Since both models are older references rather than an assurance of present stock, compare exact labels and available documentation before purchase.
