Fit and installation
Measure a portable AC installation before ordering
Cabinet fit and vent fit are different measurements. Treat the window panel, hose, clearances, electrical outlet and movement path as one installation plan rather than deciding from the unit's width alone.
Measure the opening the panel must bridge
Record the actual sash opening at the location the supplied panel will occupy. For a sliding window, note the opening's height and any track obstruction; for a hung sash, record the open width and whether the kit is designed to sit against the sill. Check locks, screens and trim that could prevent a firm seal. Compare those measurements with the exact model's stated panel range, not a different product in the same family.
The black MAP12S1TBL and MAP14S1TBL-A Midea documentation reviewed here lists a 19.1–63.8-inch window-kit span. The gray MAP12S1TGR-S listing identifies an included mounting kit, but an exact span has not been established in the reviewed sources. Do not use the black-model range as a substitute. Ask for the current exact gray-model instructions or confirm directly with the manufacturer before deciding.
Map cabinet and hose together
Measure floor width, depth and height where the cabinet will stand. Then sketch the route from the outlet at the appliance to the panel, including connector height, bend radius, hose length and any need to turn the body. Do not crush, sharply kink or extend a hose beyond the manufacturer instructions. Keep air inlets and outlets free of furniture, curtains, bedding and dust.
Even a low cabinet must have clearance above it for the connection and around its sides for airflow if the manual requires it. A physical opening smaller than the unit is an obvious problem, but a cabinet that fits tightly under a sill may still block intake or create an impossible hose bend. Measure the route in the configuration you will actually use.
Include movement, floor and electrical fit
Check the path through doorways and around corners before bringing the unit home. Listed weights in this family range from about 55 to 74 pounds; casters help on level flooring but do not make stairs easy. Use assistance for lifting and protect floors as appropriate. A rug or uneven floor can hinder casters and may interfere with airflow near low inlets.
Identify an appropriate outlet before placing the unit. Follow the exact manual's plug, circuit and extension-cord warnings. Do not plan to use an extension cord or power strip unless the exact manufacturer instructions expressly permit it. If the outlet is inconvenient, choose another location that preserves the vent route or consult an electrician rather than improvising.
Check after installation
Once the panel and hose are installed, inspect for gaps, strain, blocked screens and loose fittings. Confirm that the cabinet is level and stable and that the room-side hose does not obstruct walking paths. Re-check the seal after moving the appliance or changing the sash position. The manual is the authority for permitted window types, clearances and operating conditions.
