Honeywell HX4CESAWG0 10,000-BTU SACC Portable Air Conditioner review

Cooling-only single-hose HX portable AC rated 10,000 BTU/h SACC, with an up-to-660-square-foot manufacturer estimate, Cool/Fan/Dry modes, a sliding-window kit and remote. Dry-mode drain-tube package details conflict across manufacturer records.

A useful fit for

A current U.S.-listed HX configuration for a measured room whose load fits 10,000 BTU/h SACC, when a slim single-hose cabinet and the documented standard slider span work.

The main tradeoff

The higher SACC tier does not add heat or app control. The exact store listing is out of stock, support continuity is uncertain, and an exact source conflict leaves Dry-mode drain-tube contents unconfirmed.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the 10,000-BTU/h SACC rating meet your cooling minimum?

The exact model listing states 10,000 SACC and 13,500 ASHRAE. It meets a 10,000-SACC minimum but not 12,000.

Can your standard slider panel fit a clear opening of 34 inches without cutting?

The exact HX family manual gives a standard combined panel span of 28.9–38.2 inches, which includes 34 inches but not 39 inches.

Is heat essential, or is cooling-only acceptable?

The exact HX4CESAWG0 specification identifies no heat pump; the model-named manual’s heating footnotes do not establish a heat mode for this SKU.

Honeywell rates the HX4CESAWG0 at 10,000 BTU/h SACC and 13,500 BTU/h ASHRAE. That makes it the higher-capacity cooling-only choice among the three HX configurations covered here, not a 13,500-SACC unit. The manufacturer’s “up to 660 square feet” estimate is a screening figure: afternoon sun, insulation, ceiling height, open doors and electronics change the load. Compare the 10,000 SACC value with the room’s actual conditions; do not buy on the area claim alone.

More cooling, not a wider cabinet

The exact listing gives a 13.8-by-11.22-by-27.48-inch body and 53-pound weight, nearly the same stated dimensions as the smaller HX2. That can be useful if a narrow footprint is a priority, but the cabinet still needs breathing room and a route for the exhaust. The manufacturer states 57 dBA; treat that as a listing claim, not a room-side test or guarantee of quiet bedroom operation. Rollers can help reposition it on level flooring, but a 53-pound appliance is still awkward to carry.

This is a single-hose portable air conditioner. Its family manual describes a roughly 5.9-inch hose that extends from 10.6 to 59 inches, and a sliding-window kit with a standard combined span of 28.9–38.2 inches. It describes both vertical and horizontal slider installation. A wider or narrower opening needs a safe, sealed solution and may require a different accessory; the sources do not verify a casement seal or unlimited panel extension. Leave the documented wall clearance and keep the hose from being stretched or sharply bent. If your room has no suitable exterior vent route, this is not a useful cooling plan.

Mode choices and the drainage complication

The exact model page lists Cool, Fan and Dehumidify, a remote, panel control and a 24-hour timer. It does not list Wi-Fi for this non-V model and says there is no heat pump. The family manual sets cooling between 61°F and 88°F, documents two fan speeds and describes a three-minute compressor restart delay. Some retail copy uses a three-speed description, while the exact page’s specification table and the model-named family manual say two; do not choose it expecting a particular additional speed or heat mode.

In Cool, the owner manual calls for the exhaust hose and says automatic evaporation usually sends condensate out through it. High humidity can still cause water to collect and require draining. Dry is more demanding: the manual says to remove the exhaust hose and use continuous drainage. However, the exact listing marks the drain tube as not included, while the owner manual’s family kit inventory lists a dehumidifier drain tube. The listing also says continuous drain is supported. This is a genuine package/evidence conflict, so the included drain tube is unknown. If Dry mode must run continuously, check the parts in the seller’s exact box and plan where water can flow before relying on that feature. A typical room-level drain arrangement may not be possible where no lower drain is available.

Capacity is only one decision

The listing reports 115 volts, 1,340 watts, washable dual dust filtration, a 95-pints-per-day dehumidification claim and a 57-dBA noise claim. These are manufacturer values, not an independent test. The exact HX4 page mentions CEER in promotional copy, but no model-specific EnergyGuide was located in the sources checked here; I do not assign a label CEER for hard efficiency matching. If annual energy use or a label-efficiency threshold is decisive, ask for the exact energy label rather than extrapolating from the HX2 or another 10,000-SACC machine. The manual recommends cleaning the dust filters every two weeks and advises against extension-cord use.

Current availability and support need the same care as specifications. The exact U.S. Honeywell Store product page lists this SKU out of stock, although Honeywell Air Comfort still lists the HX4 on its U.S. category page. That evidence does not establish general discontinuation or a future stock date. The exact HX4 page states a one-year warranty and links a one-year limited warranty card for material/workmanship defects on a new authorized-retailer purchase by the original purchaser. But the U.S. support notice says the former trademark licensee is no longer in business and no longer provides direct customer service. The term is documented; current warranty claim handling and replacement-part access are not. Check the exact suffix, seller, return terms and claim route before paying.

The HX4CESAWG0 suits someone who needs its verified 10,000-BTU/h SACC tier but not app control or heat, and who can make the single-hose window and drainage arrangement work. The HX2CESAWG8 is the smaller 8,000-SACC sibling for a genuinely lower room load. The HX4CESVWG0 has the same listed SACC tier and a documented smart feature, but app-service continuity is uncertain. Do not treat any sibling as a substitute if a strict capacity, installed panel span, connected service or after-sale support requirement is essential.
