Honeywell HX2-series slim portable air conditioner, front view, from the exact HX2CESAWG8 product listing; photo-versus-render status uncertain.
The original 480×480 manufacturer CDN image is linked from the exact HX2CESAWG8 listing. It shows a tall, white, narrow cabinet with a black front grille on white. The listing identifies the model; the image itself does not show a legible model label, room installation or performance. Photograph versus render is uncertain. Honeywell Air Comfort
A useful fit for

A current U.S.-listed HX model for a measured room whose load fits 8,000 BTU/h SACC, when a narrow single-hose cabinet and the documented slider span work.

The main tradeoff

Its 8,000-SACC rating is below the HX4 siblings; the exact store page is out of stock, the support licensee has closed, and the manual/page conflict on the included Dry-mode drain tube remains unresolved.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the 8,000-BTU/h SACC rating meet your room’s minimum, rather than the 11,000-BTU/h ASHRAE headline?

The exact product listing gives 8,000 SACC and 11,000 ASHRAE. It meets an 8,000-SACC minimum but not 10,000.

Can the installation use one exhaust hose through a sliding window?

The exact HX family manual documents a single exhaust hose and a sliding-window panel. A dual-hose requirement is incompatible.

Can you handle a 53-pound cabinet?

The exact product listing gives a 53-pound unit weight. A 53-pound ceiling includes the listed cabinet weight; a 52-pound ceiling does not.

The HX2CESAWG8 is the smaller DOE-capacity member of Honeywell’s slim HX portable-AC family. The exact model page lists 8,000 BTU/h SACC and 11,000 BTU/h ASHRAE; compare the SACC figure with other current portable models, not the older-looking ASHRAE headline. The manufacturer estimates coverage up to 500 square feet, but that is not a promise for a sunlit room, a high ceiling, or a space with heat-producing equipment. This is a better starting point for a modest bedroom or office whose load actually fits the 8,000-SACC tier than for a large, open, demanding room.

A slim footprint still needs a real route

The published cabinet is 13.8 inches wide, 11.22 inches deep and 27.48 inches high; the listed weight is 53 pounds. That narrow body can be easier to place beside furniture than a wide cabinet, but it is not a featherweight to lift over stairs or a window sill. Measure the approach path and space to turn it, not just the final gap beside the window. Its wheels help on a level floor, not while carrying it.

The exact HX family manual describes one exhaust hose, about 5.9 inches in diameter and extendable from 10.6 to 59 inches. The supplied slider kit is shown for horizontal- and vertical-sliding windows. It gives a standard combined opening span of 28.9 to 38.2 inches. A window outside that span is not an automatic fit; confirm a safe, sealed arrangement before buying, especially for casement windows. The manual says not to lengthen the hose, not to sharply bend it and to keep the appliance about 19.7 inches from the wall. The hose is part of the thermal system, not an ordinary dryer vent to extend for convenience.

What the controls and drainage do

The exact model listing and family manual describe cooling, fan and dry/dehumidify functions, a remote, a digital panel and a 24-hour timer. The manual gives a 61–88°F cooling set range and two fan speeds. A retailer description says three speeds, but the exact product specifications and model-family manual both say two; I use the more directly corroborated two-speed figure. This code is the non-smart HX2 variant: the manufacturer identifies Wi-Fi on the separate V-suffix model, not this one. It has no documented heat-pump mode. If app control or heat is essential, do not treat the similarly named HX variants as interchangeable.

In cooling mode, the manual describes automatic evaporation through the exhaust route, while warning that high humidity may still require emptying condensate. Dry mode is different: the manual says to remove the exhaust hose and use continuous drainage. The exact product page’s specification block says a drain tube is not included, while the shared manual’s installation-kit inventory lists a dehumidifier drain tube. That package contradiction means the included tube is not confirmed. If unattended Dry operation or a gravity drain is a hard requirement, verify the actual box contents and drain path; otherwise consider a unit with an unambiguous model-specific drain plan. The automatic system is not a guarantee that a full pan will never interrupt operation.

Fit, care and the tradeoff

The direct product listing gives 115 volts, 1,200 watts, a 56-dBA noise claim, washable dual dust filters and a stated 76-pints-per-day dehumidification capacity. Those are manufacturer-listed values rather than independent measurements, and the dehumidification figure should not be read as a promise under every temperature or humidity condition. The manual asks for regular filter cleaning—every two weeks—and warns against using an extension cord. Before choosing an outlet, follow the exact manual and the building’s electrical requirements rather than relying on a long cord.

There are also availability and service caveats. The exact U.S. Honeywell Store product page currently shows this SKU out of stock, while the Honeywell Air Comfort category still lists the HX2. That is a stock snapshot, not proof of general discontinuation or future availability. Its exact product page states a one-year warranty and links Honeywell’s one-year limited warranty card: the card covers material/workmanship defects for a new purchase from an authorized retailer and the original purchaser, and is not transferable. The separate U.S. support notice says the former brand licensee is no longer in business and no longer provides direct customer service, so current claim handling is not established by the duration alone. For a new purchase, verify the exact suffix, seller, return terms and live claim route; an exact-model search is not proof that a supported new unit is available.

Choose the HX2CESAWG8 only if 8,000 BTU/h SACC fits the measured room, the one-hose window setup and clearances work, and you can accept the drainage uncertainty and current support caveat. The HX4CESAWG0 raises SACC capacity to 10,000 BTU/h in a similarly sized cabinet; the HX4CESVWG0 adds a listed smart-control feature, but its app-service status needs separate checking. If your room needs more capacity, your opening is outside the documented slider range, or you need confirmed current service, compare other exact models instead of stretching this unit beyond its published setup.

Honeywell’s exact HX2CESAWG8 listing and the HX-series owner manual are the primary references for this assessment. The listed product image is a studio-style manufacturer image; whether it is a photograph or a render is uncertain.
