Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does a 5,500-BTU/h DOE capacity meet your cooling threshold?
It passes the 5,000-BTU/h choice and fails the 6,000-BTU/h choice. Compare the DOE value with DOE/SACC figures, not its 8,000-BTU/h ASHRAE headline.
Explore this need in the finder →Will your slider opening fit the standard documented window-panel span?
The linked owner guide lists 26.6–52.5 inches for the standard panel. A 40-inch opening falls inside that span; the guide says the panel may be cut below 26.6 inches but gives no finished minimum, so the matcher does not certify that trimmed fit.
Explore this need in the finder →Is a single exhaust hose acceptable for your installation?
The exact specification lists a single exhaust hose and the linked guide routes it through the window kit. A dual-hose requirement excludes this configuration.
Explore this need in the finder →Can you plan for a 52-pound listed appliance?
The manufacturer lists 52 pounds, so a 55-pound ceiling passes while a 50-pound ceiling does not. This is not a stair-carrying test.
Explore this need in the finder →Is connected phone control essential?
The exact specification says Wi-Fi enabled: No. The unit has a remote but does not satisfy an app-control-essential choice.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you need integrated heating from the portable AC?
The exact specification says supplemental heat: No. A heat-essential choice rejects it even though the linked family guide has conditional heater instructions for other configurations.
Explore this need in the finder →The Frigidaire FHPC082AC1 is a small-footprint portable room air conditioner with a documented 5,500-BTU DOE cooling rating, a manufacturer estimate of up to 150 square feet and a single exhaust hose. Frigidaire pairs that modest capacity with a 12-inch-wide cabinet, two cooling fan speeds and a 52-pound listed weight. This is the more compact of the two older FHPC…AC1 configurations assessed here; it is worth considering only when its lower capacity suits the room and a standard one-hose window installation is acceptable.
Keep the two capacity labels separate
The exact Frigidaire listing calls the FHPC082AC1 an 8,000-BTU ASHRAE / 5,500-BTU DOE unit. Use the DOE figure when comparing portable-air-conditioner cooling capacity here. The larger ASHRAE number is not an extra reserve of capacity and does not clear a 6,000-BTU DOE/SACC minimum. Frigidaire estimates this model for up to 150 square feet, but that is a maker’s sizing guide, not an independent result or promise. Direct afternoon sun, ceiling height, insulation, cooking and adjoining rooms can make a small space demand more cooling than its floor area suggests.
If your essential threshold is at least 5,000 BTU/h, this model meets it on the exact EnergyGuide; a 6,000-BTU/h floor excludes it. It can make sense in a smaller, closable room where the heat load is modest, but a room near the upper end of Frigidaire’s area estimate may call for a stronger, correctly vented model. Do not choose capacity from a room-size label alone.
Compact cabinet, but plan clear space around it
The manufacturer lists a 12-inch width, 27-inch height, 13¾-inch depth and 52-pound product weight. That narrow body may be easier to place beside furniture than the 16½-inch-wide FHPC102AC1, though the unit is still a 52-pound appliance to move. Measure the full location, doorways and route from storage to the window; casters help repositioning on a level floor but are not a stair-lifting feature.
The exact owner’s guide requires clearance of at least 31.5 inches at the front and back and 19.7 inches at the sides. Its single exhaust hose must carry warm air outside through the supplied window kit or a comparable opening. The standard sliding-panel span is 26.6–52.5 inches. The guide allows cutting the kit for openings below 26.6 inches, but does not state a final minimum after cutting, so a narrow opening is not certified by that standard range. Measure before ordering and retain the exact model suffix when checking a nonstandard window.
There is a small but useful source conflict: the exact product-spec sheet lists a 10.6-inch minimum hose length, while the page-linked owner’s guide describes a hose that starts at 15 inches and extends to 59 inches. Both give a 59-inch maximum. The safe decision is to treat the supported maximum as 59 inches and verify the actual hose reach for your placement; this assessment does not invent a precise minimum. Keep the hose as short and straight as practical, as the guide instructs.
Operating and maintaining it
Frigidaire’s exact specification sheet lists Cool, Dry and Fan functions, two fan speeds for cooling and fan operation, an included remote, a programmable 24-hour timer, sleep mode, automatic restart, a washable dust filter and no supplemental heat. The exact sheet also says Wi-Fi is not enabled. If app control, supplemental heating or a dual-hose arrangement is essential, this model fails those requirements; features on a Frigidaire Gallery sibling do not transfer to this SKU.
Plan for drainage in Dry mode. The owner’s guide says to use a garden hose for continuous drainage in that mode and route it downhill to a lower drain; the guide describes the garden hose as sold separately. Its accessory table also lists a drain hose, so verify whether the supplied piece fits the continuous outlet rather than assuming that it does. For ordinary Cool or Auto use, the guide recommends closing the continuous-drain outlet for best performance. A full-tank/P1 or winter-storage drain still requires manual attention. This is not a documented pump-lift setup.
Clean the washable filters every week of operation, according to the guide; the filter reminder lights after 250 fan-hours. The exact specification sheet lists R-32 refrigerant, 115 volts, 830 watts and 7.5 amps in cooling, and a one-year parts-and-labor warranty. Use the manual’s grounded single-circuit outlet instruction and do not use an extension cord or adapter. The sheet claims 50 dBA on Low and 53 dBA on High; those are manufacturer figures, not my measurements.
Efficiency and alternatives
The exact EnergyGuide gives a CEER of 6.3 and estimates $85 in yearly energy cost using 13 cents per kilowatt-hour and eight hours of use per day over three months. The estimate is a standardized comparison, not a forecast of your bill. A different utility rate, season length, thermostat setting or runtime changes household cost. This label is below a strict CEER 8 requirement.
Choose the FHPC082AC1 when narrow width and lower handling weight matter more than the 6,500-BTU DOE tier. The distinct FHPC102AC1 is wider and 10 pounds heavier, but its 6,500-BTU DOE rating, three fan speeds and swing louver offer a different balance for a larger room. Both use one hose, have no documented heat and are not Wi-Fi models. If you need more headroom or connected control, compare a reviewed exact configuration rather than assuming the 082’s small chassis or features carry across the Frigidaire catalogue. No cooling, noise, durability or energy test is claimed here.
