A useful fit for

A plausible 8,000-SACC black cooling-only option when its 66.8-pound cabinet and single-hose layout fit the room.

The main tradeoff

The exact page and technical table disagree on the ASHRAE and area claims. The E3 manual says the gravity drain hose is included only with heat versions, and no pump is documented.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the verified 8,000-BTU/h SACC meet the selected cooling floor?

It meets an 8,000-BTU/h SACC minimum, but not a 10,000-BTU/h one.

Explore this need in the finder →
Will this cabinet meet the stated maximum body height?

The exact cabinet height is 28.35 inches; this test excludes a lower 28-inch ceiling.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does this exact model supply heat if heating is essential?

No; the exact model is documented as cooling-only.

Explore this need in the finder →
Is app control confirmed for this exact Danby SKU?

No app support is established in its exact product page or manual; a connected-control must-have cannot pass on an unknown.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can the exact manual confirm this standard uncut window-panel span?

The manual shows adjustment/cutting but does not publish numeric endpoints, so a 36-inch measured span remains unconfirmed.

Is gravity drainage different from an integrated lift pump here?

The exact manual documents a gravity route only; the included drain hose status is no for the cooling-only E3 version. No pump is documented.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the exact 7.2 EnergyGuide CEER meet a strict 8.0 threshold?

No. The exact label is 7.2; the 8.0 minimum is a stricter requirement and excludes this model.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the listed cabinet weight fit a 75-pound ceiling?

The manufacturer lists 66.8 pounds; a 75-pound maximum admits this cabinet but not an unknown weight.

The black Danby DPA080E3BDB-6 is an 8,000-BTU/h SACC single-hose portable air conditioner with Cool, Dry and Fan functions, an included window-kit setup, remote control and washable filter. The 8,000 SACC rating is the stable cooling figure across its product page and model-specific sheet. Two other headline specifications are not stable: the exact product page calls it 12,500 BTU/h and up to 400 square feet, while the specification sheet’s detailed table lists 13,000 BTU/h and 350 square feet. Because both values are presented in Danby’s own exact-model materials, this assessment leaves the ASHRAE headline and area estimate unresolved rather than silently picking the larger claim.

It is a separate black model, not an assumed white twin

The E3 BDB shares a family owner manual with DPA080E3WDB-6, DPA080HE3WDB-6 and a heat-capable black code. The shared manual establishes the broad E3 installation and care instructions, but it does not erase product-page differences. The black BDB’s exact page and spec sheet identify the cabinet as 17.13 inches wide, 14.17 deep and 28.35 high, at 66.8 pounds. The white E3WDB is also listed at that size and weight, but its own page and specification sheet consistently state 13,000 BTU and an up-to-350-square-foot estimate. Keep those exact models separate: the black version’s conflicting area and ASHRAE claims are not a harmless color detail when a buyer filters by room area or nominal capacity.

It is still an 8,000-SACC unit. If the room’s calculated cooling need is at least 8,000 SACC, it clears that threshold; if the need is 10,000 SACC, it does not. Do not confuse ASHRAE BTU with SACC, and do not make a square-foot fit decision from the larger marketing estimate. A sunny top-floor room, open-plan doorway, high ceiling or cooking heat can make an area slogan especially misleading.

Installation and water are the real planning questions

The product page calls the BDB a single-hose appliance, so the exhaust duct carries hot condenser air outside while the unit draws replacement air from the room. The manual includes a window slider kit and permits cutting the slider when the opening is shorter than the assembled kit, but gives no numerical span or documented post-cut minimum for this configuration. Measure the opening and ask for the exact panel dimensions; the label “window kit included” is not proof it fits every sliding or hung window.

The E3 manual is explicit that a drain hose is included only on models that include heat. The BDB is the cooling-only code, so do not assume a drain hose is in the box. The manual describes manual draining of the internal pan and a continuous gravity drain; if you want Dry-mode drainage, plan for the compatible hose separately and route it downhill. It also states that the appliance has no drain pump. Danby’s product page describes continuous direct drainage for Dry mode, but that is not a built-in lift pump or confirmation of a continuous cooling drain. A household that needs a pump or a routed hose supplied with the cooling-only unit should not treat the BDB as meeting that requirement.

The technical sheet lists R32 refrigerant, three fan speeds, 53 dBA high and 51 dBA low, 115 volts, 11 amps, 1,250 watts and a 59.1-inch power cord. The sound numbers are manufacturer claims, not measurements from our room test. The exact EnergyGuide shows CEER 7.2. It also lists a two-year parts-and-labor warranty with in-home service; read the full current warranty and the seller’s service terms. The manual calls for a grounded outlet, forbids extension cords, and asks that filters be cleaned every two weeks. Keep room for its 28.35-inch body plus the required air clearances and hose rather than wedging it tightly against the window.

Who should keep it on a shortlist?

This model is plausible when you want the 8,000-SACC cooling tier, prefer a black cabinet, can place a roughly 67-pound unit near a window and accept the single-hose layout. It is not the right choice when an exact 350- or 400-square-foot rating determines eligibility, because its exact product sources disagree. The E3WDB white model offers a more consistent 13,000-BTU/350-square-foot record while retaining 8,000 SACC; its own assessment remains separate. If heating is essential, move to the DPA080HE3WDB-6 heat-pump configuration rather than inferring heat from the shared manual family or black finish.

The BDB’s app control, inverter-compressor type, numeric uncut window span and pump status are not positive features in the exact documentation reviewed. In particular, unknown app compatibility cannot meet a connected-control requirement, and a gravity drain is not an upward lift. For shoppers who can work within those limits, the meaningful case is the shared 8,000-SACC capacity and black finish—not a promise that it cools a particular area or has the same exact specification record as the white version.
