A useful fit for

A mid-tier cooling candidate when 7,000 BTU/h SACC suits the load, Danby’s up-to-300-square-foot estimate is plausible and the single-hose window installation fits.

The main tradeoff

It misses a 7,100-SACC threshold despite its 10,000-BTU headline. No heat mode, app control, lift pump or numeric window-panel span was verified; gravity drainage is for Dry mode only.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does 7,000 SACC meet the room’s documented capacity floor?

It clears 6,000 BTU/h SACC but not 7,100; do not round up the exact SACC figure.

Explore this need in the finder →
Will the 27.68-inch cabinet fit under a 28-inch height limit?

The exact page lists 27.68 inches high; this is cabinet height only, before hose and airflow space.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does this exact model use the required single exhaust hose?

Yes. Danby lists a single hose and the family owner manual names this exact DPA070 code.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does it qualify when heating is required?

No. The model-named manual supports Cool, Dry and Fan operation but not Heat.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can app control be a must-have filter?

The exact product-page record does not confirm app control, so it cannot pass an essential app filter.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can the standard panel be treated as a verified fit at a 36-inch opening?

The exact manual permits some trimming but publishes no numeric span or post-cut minimum. No span is assumed; verify the exact kit.

Is a Dry-mode gravity hose the same as a lift pump?

No. Gravity drainage is documented for Dry only; no integrated pump is documented.

Danby's white DPA070B4WDB is the strongest cooling model in the small B4 family reviewed here: 10,000 BTU/h in its headline and 7,000 BTU/h SACC on the exact U.S. page and EnergyGuide. Use the SACC value for portable-AC comparisons. It clears a 6,000-BTU/h DOE minimum but misses a 7,100 minimum, so the 10,000 headline is not a reason to select it for a higher SACC requirement. Danby's own room estimate is up to 300 square feet, a guide rather than a guarantee for sunny, poorly insulated or heavily occupied rooms.

How it differs from the smaller B4 units

The DPA070 shares the 13.58-by-13.98-by-27.68-inch cabinet size with DPA053B4WDB, though it is listed at 58.6 pounds rather than 55.6. Its added capacity is a real SACC step: DPA053 is rated 5,300 and the compact DPA050B7BDB 5,000. The DPA070 is therefore the choice of the three when cooling need, not just its headline, calls for more output. It is not shorter or easier to tuck under a low sill. If the room only requires a 5,000-SACC rating, the smaller models may be the more practical place to start after measuring the opening and room load.

Danby lists one exhaust hose and an included window kit. The shared exact-model manual describes hung- and sliding-window installation, with cutting permitted in certain fit situations; it does not provide a verified numeric standard span or a post-cut minimum. Check the exact panel dimensions against your window before purchase. Preserve the hose route and the manual's placement clearances—about 12 inches on the sides and 20 inches front and rear—rather than forcing the unit against a wall or stretching the duct. Single-hose units exchange indoor air as part of exhaust operation, so sealing the kit carefully matters to the installation.

Features with sensible limits

This is a cooling-only 3-in-1: Cool, fan and Dry/dehumidifier operation. The exact product page lists a two-speed fan, washable filter, remote, auto-restart and a 24-hour timer; no heating mode is documented. The EnergyGuide CEER is 6.9, better than the 6.1 and 6.5 labels for the two smaller models, but a CEER comparison is still a standardized label comparison—not a claim about your bill. Danby lists 55 dBA high and 51.5 dBA low. Those are the manufacturer's stated figures, not independent measurements, and they do not tell you whether compressor cycling or fan tone will bother you at night.

The exact product specification lists 115 volts, 11.5 amps and 1,045 watts. Use a properly grounded receptacle, follow the unit's rating plate and manual, and do not run it from an extension cord or multi-outlet adapter. Danby lists a 24-month in-home parts-and-labor warranty for this SKU; review the full terms and service limits for the exact seller and date. The washable filter is due for regular cleaning, every two weeks in the shared manual's routine.

Drainage deserves more care than a brief “direct drain” feature bullet. Danby's product page describes continuous direct drainage for dehumidifier operation. The model-named manual says the gravity hose is for Dry mode and must run downhill. During cooling, the manual documents a P1/full-pan condition and manual emptying. It does not document an integrated pump route for unattended cooling. If a lift pump or continuous cooling drain is a must, do not treat this DPA070 as a match based on its dehumidifier hose.

Room match and alternatives

Choose this model when a 7,000-SACC capacity meets your calculated room load, a single-hose window route is workable and its roughly 28-inch cabinet can stand with adequate air clearance. Its up-to-300-square-foot estimate is substantially larger than the two smaller B4 models' 150-square-foot estimates, but room area alone hides solar gain, ceilings, occupants, electronics and kitchen heat. If a room needs at least 7,100 or 8,000 SACC, the DPA070 fails that hard threshold despite the 10,000 BTU headline. If a modest space needs only 5,000 SACC, the DPA050B7BDB is several inches shorter; DPA053 offers 5,300 SACC in the DPA070-sized case.

The shared manual also names the discontinued white DPA050B7WDB, a separate exact 5,000-SACC color variant of the black BDB; its page states that it is discontinued. It is useful as a record for an existing unit or a specific offer, not a current default recommendation. No exact DPA070 source establishes app control, an inverter compressor, a dual-hose layout or a numeric window-panel range, so those conditions remain unresolved rather than assumed absent or present. DPA070B4WDB is a good fit only when its verified mid-tier capacity and physical setup answer the actual room problem. It is not a substitute for a larger SACC model or a heat pump.
