A useful fit for

A one-hose installation with a known exact capacity label verified before relying on any hard cooling threshold.

The main tradeoff

The model remains a current support reference, but the exact-store snapshot showed it unavailable. Keep conflicting fields unknown; do not treat this manufacturer page as a live stock or price quote.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

What cooling rating does this exact code document?

Exact support and dated store listing differ on SACC. Do not approve a hard capacity requirement until the offered model’s label is confirmed.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does your measured window fit the manual’s printed range?

The exact manual lists 20.5–50 inches. It allows panel cutting below the printed range without specifying a new minimum, so this check uses only those endpoints.

Can a full tank be drained downhill?

Automatic evaporation does not eliminate all water handling. The manual supplies a gravity drain path; no integrated lift pump is documented.

Is Heat an essential function?

The HWTB suffix documents Heat, but not its mechanism or outdoor-temperature threshold.

The BPT08HWTB is the heat-equipped branch of BLACK+DECKER’s BPT08 portable AC family. Its model-specific support page lists 8,150 BTU/h SACC cooling, 12,000 BTU/h ASHRAE cooling and 10,500 BTU/h ASHRAE heating. The store’s exact listing gives a different SACC/ASHRAE cooling pair, so a strict cooling-capacity minimum should remain unresolved until the offered configuration is confirmed. The Heat mode itself is explicitly documented for the HWTB code; do not transfer it to the nearly named BPT08WTB cooling-only variant.

What Heat adds—and what remains unknown

The exact page describes a four-mode AC, heater, dehumidifier and fan, plus four cooling speeds, three fan speeds, a Follow Me remote, 24-hour timer, automatic louver swing, washable filter, casters and automatic evaporation. Follow Me is remote-sensor operation, not an app. The 10,500-BTU figure is listed on the ASHRAE basis. I found no exact evidence defining the heating mechanism or an outdoor-temperature performance range. The manual’s room-temperature range for Heat is not an outdoor heat-pump cutoff; if your essential need is heating at a specified outdoor temperature, these documents do not answer it.

The BPT08HWTB uses one exhaust hose. During Heat the exhaust hose needs to be connected to the window; this is still a portable room AC, not a vent-free space heater. The manual also states that the tank can fill in Heat, causing an E4 warning and interruption. It does not require a permanently connected condensate drain hose in ordinary Heat operation, but an E4 event still means emptying the unit. That distinction is useful for a buyer who accepts occasional manual water handling but cannot route a drain continuously.

Measure the actual fit, not a family resemblance

The manual’s common slider span is 20.5–50 inches. It allows the panel to be cut below its standard minimum but supplies no supported post-cut number; preserve the hose opening and treat only the stated range as confirmed. Connect the exhaust during Cool, Dehumidify and Heat, and remove it for Fan. The manual recommends a hose for better Dehumidify performance. Keep a short, uncrushed route without sharp bends and leave air clearance around the appliance.

Both exact support dimensions and the older official family-manual dimensions are recorded, but they disagree across width, depth, height and mass. The support page says 16.5 × 14.06 × 27.09 inches and 56.1 pounds; the manual says 17.32 × 13.98 × 28.15 inches and 62.3 pounds. This could matter in a doorway or under-window space. With no revision explanation linking the two, none of the four physical numbers is a safe hard fit claim. Verify the exact cabinet being sold instead of using a visually similar product image as a measuring guide.

Drainage, cleaning and electrical planning

Automatic evaporation reduces routine attention, not all attention. The instructions describe E2 in Cool or Dehumidify and E4 in Heat as drain conditions, with a supplied gravity route to a floor drain or tray; the outlet must be above the receiving point. A built-in lift pump is not established. For regular dehumidifying, continuous drainage is recommended. For Heat, the manual says a drain hose need not remain connected when conditions are ordinary, but the tank still has to be emptied if it fills. The washable filter needs cleaning weekly. The manual calls for a grounded rated outlet and forbids adapters and extension cords; verify the circuit and outlet position before settling on a room.

Which answers should change your result?

A heat requirement keeps this HWTB variant while excluding BPT08WTB. A request for no permanent drain hose during ordinary Heat use is supported; a request for zero condensate handling under every humidity condition is not. A one-hose setup is required. A measured 40-inch opening fits the standard panel, while a 50.1-inch opening does not have a documented solution. The disputed cooling label should not satisfy a hard 8,000-SACC floor without confirmation; at 10,000 SACC it fails. Also exclude it for a known cabinet-width, depth, height or weight ceiling until the dimensions conflict is resolved. Unknown CEER, smart control, inverter and heat mechanism cannot satisfy essential conditions.

Compare the BPT08WTB if you want the same capacity family without Heat; compare BPT10HWTB if you need more documented cooling tier and still want the HWTB mode, while recognizing that its own SACC and size data are also conflicted. The exact support page remained in the U.S. reference catalogue but the dated store snapshot showed no availability. If you find one, verify the model suffix, current capacity label, included slider and the actual cabinet measurements before ordering.
