Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Is the documented 8,000-BTU/h SACC/CEC tier enough, or must you reach 10,000 SACC?
The exact BLACK+DECKER support article states 8,000 BTU/h SACC/CEC and a separate 12,000 BTU/h ASHRAE 128 figure. It meets an 8,000 minimum but not 10,000 SACC.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the standard slider fit a measured 40-inch opening?
The BPACT08NM manual gives a standard 26.5–48-inch span, so 40 inches fits that documented range. A wider 49-inch opening exceeds it; cutting below the lower limit has no numeric minimum in the manual.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you need the exact model's documented app and inverter features?
The exact product article names an inverter compressor and Wi-Fi/app control. It meets those feature questions; they do not establish any quantified energy-saving or quietness result.
Explore this need in the finder →Can gravity drainage meet your continuous-drain need?
The exact manual supports gravity drainage and a full-tank alert, but no built-in lift pump is established. Choose gravity if sufficient; a required pump is not confirmed.
Explore this need in the finder →The BLACK+DECKER BPACT08NM is a connected, inverter-equipped, single-hose portable air conditioner with a clearly stated 8,000-BTU/h SACC/CEC rating and a separate 12,000-BTU/h ASHRAE 128 figure. Use the 8,000 number when comparing portable-unit capacity; the larger ASHRAE headline is not an interchangeable rating. This is a cooling-only model, not a heat pump. The exact manufacturer material does not give a room-area guarantee, independent sound measurement or EnergyGuide CEER, so the capacity label alone cannot tell you whether it will handle a sunny, open or high-load room.
Who should consider this exact model?
It is worth considering when 8,000 BTU/h SACC/CEC is an appropriate tier for the room, the slider fits and you value app or voice control. BLACK+DECKER documents an inverter compressor, Wi-Fi through its Home app, Alexa/Google Assistant control, a remote and a top LED panel. The manual names BPACT08NM in app setup. These features distinguish it from BPACT08WT and BPACT10WT; they do not prove energy savings, quieter operation or faster cooling.
Do not confuse its 8,000-BTU/h SACC/CEC rating with an 8,000-square-foot or other room-size promise. Compare it with the room’s real heat load, then measure the opening and floor space. If the DOE/SACC minimum you need is 10,000 BTU/h, this model does not qualify. A larger rating is not automatically better either: it must still fit the installation and your electrical and drainage plan. No exact model-specific CEER or operating-current figure was established in the manufacturer sources I inspected, so I would not select it on an efficiency estimate or a guessed circuit load.
Connected controls are useful only if your network is ready
The support listing describes Wi-Fi, app and Alexa/Google Assistant voice control; the manual gives 2.4–2.5-GHz Wi-Fi specifications and shows BPACT08NM in setup. App requirements and service compatibility can change. If you need control without a phone, the documented alternatives are the included remote and top-mounted panel. The remote uses two AAA batteries, not included.
The manufacturer lists four cooling-speed settings and three fan-speed settings. The manual names Auto, Cool, Dry and Fan modes. Attach the exhaust hose in Cool, Auto and Dry; disconnect it for Fan. Swing, timer and sleep are documented but do not replace a correct setup.
Measure the standard slider and cabinet placement
The support article lists a cabinet 17.4 inches wide, 13.74 inches deep and 28.7 inches high, with a 55-pound unit weight. Allow space beyond those cabinet dimensions: the manual calls for at least 18 inches of clearance during setup and a nearby single-circuit power outlet. Keep the hose as short as practical and avoid sharp bends. The included standard window slider is documented for 26.5 to 48 inches. For a narrower opening the manual says to trim a designated panel, but it does not give a numerical minimum after cutting. Do not treat the 26.5-inch standard minimum as proof that every shorter window can be sealed safely; inspect the actual track, sash, seals and hose exit before ordering.
The manual calls for a grounded nominal 120-volt outlet, no temporary adapter or shared appliance load, and an LCDI plug test before each use. The exact product listing gives no running-current or wattage figure; check the unit label if that limit matters rather than inferring current from BTUs.
Plan for moisture and routine care
Auto water evaporation can reduce routine emptying during cooling, but it is not a promise that the tank can never fill. The manual describes a P1 full-tank alert and shutdown. A gravity-drain route is documented for continuous drainage, especially in Dry mode; the instructions do not establish a lift pump, so do not plan an uphill drain. Weekly washable-filter cleaning and a filter-reset reminder after 250 operating hours are part of ownership. The manual gives operating ranges of 60–95°F for Cool and 55–95°F for Dry, with 30–90% relative humidity; those are operating limits, not room-sizing advice.
The manual lists a one-year parts-and-labor warranty and a five-year compressor-parts term subject to its warranty conditions. Refrigerant remains unknown here: the manual contains generic safety text referring to R32/R290 rather than one model-specific charge, so that boilerplate is not enough to choose a refrigerant value.
Compare by your actual constraint
Choose the BPACT08NM over a lower-rated, less-connected alternative only when its documented 8,000-BTU/h SACC/CEC tier, app/inverter features and standard 26.5–48-inch slider fit your needs. BPACT08WT has a separately documented 4,100-BTU/h DOE figure and a 20.5–59-inch slider in its exact shared manual, but does not document connected control. BPACT10WT has a 10,000-BTU ASHRAE headline, while its lower DOE/SACC figure remains unconfirmed in the inspected exact sources; do not assume it clears an 8,000-BTU DOE minimum. The 08NM is the clear option of these three if the combination of connected control and an 8,000-BTU SACC/CEC label is essential, but its shorter standard slider range and 55-pound weight may rule it out. Skip all three if you require heat, a confirmed condensate pump, a numerical sound limit, a known CEER or a model-specific 10,000-BTU SACC minimum.
