Compare Danby DPA060, DPA063 and DPA065 portable ACs

The Danby DPA060B1WDB, DPA063E1WDB and DPA065B6WDB-6 are all current U.S. single-hose portable air conditioners, but the prominent 10,000- or 12,000-BTU headlines are not the DOE rating to compare. Their exact documentation lists 6,000, 6,300 and 6,500 BTU/h SACC respectively. The DPA065 is the largest number in this trio, but its capacity advantage over the DPA063 is only 200 SACC BTU/h; window fit, cabinet size, weight, drain routine and confirmed features may matter more to a particular room.

At a glance: measured differences from exact records

  • DPA060B1WDB: 6,000 SACC, 10,000 ASHRAE, maker estimate up to 250 sq. ft., 17.87 × 14.37 × 27.56 inches, 65.9 lb, CEER 6.5.
  • DPA063E1WDB: 6,300 SACC, 10,000 ASHRAE, maker estimate up to 250 sq. ft., 15.28 × 14.02 × 24.80 inches, 48.2 lb, CEER 6.6.
  • DPA065B6WDB-6: 6,500 SACC, 12,000 ASHRAE, maker estimate up to 300 sq. ft., 17.13 × 12.99 × 28.74 inches, 63.7 lb, CEER 6.7.

These room figures are manufacturer estimates rather than guarantees. Solar exposure, insulation, ceiling height, people and appliances all affect cooling load. Keep SACC separate from ASHRAE; a 12,000-ASHRAE headline on the DPA065 does not mean it meets a 12,000-SACC minimum.

Who might prefer each configuration?

The DPA060 is the entry point by published SACC in this group. It is not the lightest: its 65.9-pound cabinet is slightly heavier than the DPA065. The smaller DPA063 has the lowest height and weight here, so it is the first to examine when a low sill, shallow placement or occasional lift matters. Its 6,300 SACC may cover a moderate need, but the exact manual contains conflicting Dry-mode exhaust guidance; resolve that operating detail if dehumidifying without the hose is central to your use.

The DPA065 gives the most documented SACC and the largest stated room estimate of these three. Its footprint is narrower than the DPA060's, but its 28.74-inch height is the tallest. The full manual clearance requirement still matters: the DPA065 needs 20 inches at the front, sides and back. None of the three supplies a confirmed numeric uncut window-panel span in the exact documents reviewed, so the finder should not promise a numerical opening fit. The DPA065 manual allows panel cutting for a shorter opening, but verify the final kit geometry rather than assuming an unstated minimum.

Drain, hose and control needs can decide it

All three are single-hose layouts; choose another design if two exhaust paths are essential. The DPA065 requires its exhaust hose in Cool and Auto, while Fan and Dry can run without that hose. Its supplied continuous drain is gravity-only for Dry mode and the manual says there is no pump. The DPA060 documentation likewise identifies manual pan drainage and a gravity route for Dry; neither should pass a pump-only need. For the DPA063, the model manual's Dry instructions and FAQ disagree about hose use, so the exact conflict is preserved rather than generalized from the other two.

None in this comparison is a heat-pump choice. The DPA063 and DPA065 confirm a remote, including Follow Me for the DPA065, but do not establish app control or inverter compressors. A hard requirement should be matched to a clearly documented exact configuration, not to a family resemblance. The DPA065's CEER 6.7 is marginally higher than the DPA063's 6.6 and DPA060's 6.5; compare the EnergyGuides and operating assumptions, not those tenths alone.

What to measure before picking one

Start with the room's heat load and your minimum SACC need. Then measure the cabinet location and the window opening, check clearance for airflow, trace the shortest practical exhaust route, and confirm where gravity drainage could go. If moving the unit means lifting it, the DPA063's listed 48.2 pounds is notably lower than the two larger cabinets. If the room needs more than 6,500 SACC, a larger configuration—not a conversion of the ASHRAE headline—is the relevant next step.
