Danby DPA050B7BDB vs DPA053B4WDB vs DPA070B4WDB
Danby's current U.S. portable-air-conditioner category lists 13 distinct models, including DPA050B7BDB, DPA053B4WDB and DPA070B4WDB. These three share a manual family but they are not the same cooling tier: their DOE SACC ratings are 5,000, 5,300 and 7,000 BTU/h. The headline capacities are 8,500, 9,000 and 10,000 BTU/h respectively. Use SACC when your room has a minimum capacity requirement, and do not assume that a model-name family means equal fit, drainage or lifecycle status.
First choose the SACC tier
The DPA050B7BDB and DPA053B4WDB are both rated for up to 150 square feet by Danby, although the latter adds only 300 SACC BTU/h. DPA070B4WDB has a 7,000-SACC rating and a Danby estimate of up to 300 square feet. An area estimate is not an engineering guarantee: sun, room shape, ceiling height, insulation, kitchen heat and occupants can change the load. If your minimum is 6,000 SACC, DPA070 clears it and the two 5,000-class units do not. If you require 7,100, none of these three qualifies; do not round 7,000 upward or substitute its 10,000 headline.
Then check the case and window
DPA050B7BDB is the notably short cabinet at 12.52 inches wide, 12.95 deep and 24.96 high. The DPA053 and DPA070 use a larger 13.58-by-13.98-by-27.68-inch case. Listed weights are 53.4, 55.6 and 58.6 pounds. Those measurements can identify an obvious conflict with a shelf or walkway, but they are not the installation footprint; the hose and manufacturer's clearance space need room too.
All three are documented as single-hose portable ACs with a window kit. The shared model-named manual describes both hung- and sliding-window installation and allows cutting the slider in some circumstances. It does not give a standard numerical panel span or a post-cut lower endpoint for these exact offers. Do not mark a measured opening as compatible based on a broad “fits most windows” phrase. Request and compare the actual kit measurements. The manual gives about 12 inches of side clearance and 20 inches front and back; keep the operating position accessible instead of squeezing the case into a recess.
Drainage is mode-specific
Danby uses three-function descriptions—cool, fan and dehumidify—while the owner manual labels the moisture-removal mode Dry. None of these three is the separate heat-pump model in Danby's broader portfolio. The manual lists a gravity drain arrangement for Dry mode, with the included hose sloped downward. It separately explains a P1/full-pan condition and manual draining. A gravity hose is not a lift pump, and a Dry-mode drain is not proof of unattended continuous drainage during cooling. If your room or placement makes it hard to empty water safely, verify the precise use instructions before selecting any of these units.
Compare efficiency and ongoing care
The exact EnergyGuides list CEER 6.1 for DPA050B7BDB, 6.5 for DPA053B4WDB and 6.9 for DPA070B4WDB. These are label values, not a prediction of your utility bill or an independent seasonal test. All three pages list R32 refrigerant, a washable filter, a remote, a 24-hour timer and auto restart; their product sheets specify two fan speeds. The two smaller models' direct-drain bullet and the DPA070 page's similar copy should be read alongside the manual rather than treated as a pump promise. Filter maintenance is listed every two weeks in the family manual. The exact listed warranty is two years for these pages, but service style differs by model page; read the exact terms and seller documentation.
Keep the white DPA050 variant separate
Danby's exact DPA050B7WDB page names a white variant, states the same 5,000 SACC rating and dimensions, and explicitly marks that configuration discontinued. Its exact model is on the shared owner-manual cover, as is the black DPA050B7BDB. It is therefore accounted as a covered earlier finish variant of the BDB assessment, not silently folded into a single SKU or shown as a second currently matchable product. A specific remaining offer can still be considered, but the page does not promise stock.
In short: the short case and 5,000 SACC DPA050B7BDB is the small-room option; DPA053B4WDB buys a small capacity increase in a taller cabinet; DPA070B4WDB is the step to 7,000 SACC. Each still needs a compatible exhaust opening, grounded circuit and an acceptable gravity/manual water plan. Read the exact model review, measure the window and keep unresolved app, heat, pump and kit-span requirements out of the recommendation.
