BLACK+DECKER BPT05, BPT06, BPT08 and BPT10: exact models and conflicts

The BPT05, BPT06, BPT08 and BPT10 labels cover distinct cooling configurations, not a single portable AC with interchangeable badges. Compare the DOE/SACC field only where the exact record is consistent, treat ASHRAE as a separate rating, and verify the shared family manual's window and maintenance instructions against the suffix on the appliance.

Start with the exact code and a comparable rating

BLACK+DECKER's BPT support entries give 5,000 SACC for BPT05WTB and BPT05WTBA, 6,000 for BPT06WTB, 8,150 for BPT08WTB and BPT08HWTB, and 10,200 for BPT10WTB and BPT10HWTB. Those support pages separately list ASHRAE values. Current store titles conflict on several BPT08 and BPT10 labels: a title may say 8,000 SACC or 10,000 SACC, while product support says 8,150 or 10,200. Some ASHRAE values also differ. The exact performance field cannot be chosen by picking the higher number or assuming rounding. We keep those fields unknown in strict matching until an exact revision/label bridge resolves them. BPT05WTB, BPT05WTBA and BPT06WTB have consistent SACC values in their support listings and can be distinguished by their 5k, 5k and 6k tiers.

The system does not turn an ASHRAE label into DOE capacity: the values use different rating methods. If cooling threshold is essential, require a matching model label and valid same-basis figure. A buyer who only wants to compare broad product families can still read each review, but unresolved data should not silently qualify a product.

Do not collapse variants by cabinet image or shared instructions

BPT05WTB is the narrow 12.6-inch-wide configuration with a 49.28-pound listed mass and two cooling/fan speeds. BPT05WTBA and BPT06WTB use a wider cabinet, three listed speeds and auto louver swing; their separate SACC ratings remain 5,000 and 6,000. BPT08 and BPT10 add remote Follow Me, four cooling speeds and three fan speeds in the exact support descriptions. HWTB adds Heat; WTB alone is cooling-only. That suffix distinction matters more than images that look alike.

Physical fit should be cautious. The 05WTB manual and support dimensions agree, whereas the 05WTBA/BPT06 sources disagree on depth. The current support and older family manual for BPT08/BPT10 disagree more broadly across cabinet dimensions and weight. In the latter cases, unknown dimensions do not pass a strict doorway, under-sill or lift limit. Ask the seller or manufacturer to measure the exact revision offered; never infer a cabinet size from a nearly identical marketing render.

Window openings and exhaust are separate from room cooling

These are single-hose portable systems. The manuals prescribe a slider range of 20.5–50 inches for BPT05WTB and the BPT08/BPT10 family, and 27.5–47.2 inches for the shared BPT05WTBA/BPT06 manual. The documents allow panel cutting below the normal minimum but provide no numerical post-cut floor, so a stricter opening cannot be called confirmed. Preserve the hose port. During cooling the single exhaust must route outdoors; the instructions tell owners to disconnect it in Fan mode. Dehumidify has its own hose/drain guidance. Measure sash width, panel orientation, floor space and hose bends before installing; passing one panel range does not guarantee all the other geometry.

Build the water routine into the decision

The manuals describe automatic evaporation, but still warn that a tank may fill and interrupt operation. Supplied gravity drainage goes to a lower floor drain or tray; no lift pump is documented. Dehumidify may benefit from a hose route, and the BPT08/BPT10 manual recommends continuous drainage in that mode. For the HWTB Heat models, the exhaust hose is required at the window. The HWTB instructions do not require a permanent condensate drain hose during ordinary Heat use, but the tank can fill and must then be emptied. No model is a safe match for an essential “never handle water” condition solely because the support page says auto evaporation.

Weekly washable-filter care and the specified grounded outlet are common ownership tasks. Do not use an adapter or extension cord to solve a placement problem. Exact current BPT storefront checks showed the observed variants unavailable on the dated snapshot; that is not a general retailer stock statement. Use an exact model-code search and verify the physical label before checkout, and do not assume a current product card means a live price or available unit.

Use the reviews for exact alternatives

Choose BPT05WTB when narrow width is the priority and 5,000 SACC is enough; BPT05WTBA offers the same listed SACC but a wider, differently controlled body. Choose BPT06WTB only if the sixth-thousand SACC tier matters. The BPT08 HWTB/WTB pair is a different rating-evidence problem: support has one value set, store title another; among those two, only HWTB documents Heat. BPT10 raises the support-page cooling claim but also carries a store-title SACC conflict and severe physical specification conflict. Compare the individual model pages to the exact question you are answering rather than relying on the number in the name.
