Model comparison
BLACK+DECKER BPACT08NM vs BPACT08WT vs BPACT10WT
BLACK+DECKER’s BPACT08NM, BPACT08WT and BPACT10WT are not three performance levels on one simple scale. They differ in the capacity measure that can be matched, connected controls, standard window-panel range and the certainty of their documentation. Compare the exact suffix and required feature, not just the largest BTU number printed in a title.
Capacity: one clear 8,000-SACC model, one clear smaller model, one uncertain lower rating
BPACT08NM is listed at 8,000 BTU/h SACC/CEC and 12,000 BTU/h ASHRAE 128. For portable AC comparisons, use the former seasonal-adjusted capacity. It is a documented 8,000-SACC choice; it does not meet a 10,000-SACC minimum. The exact page does not publish a room-area figure that would guarantee coverage.
BPACT08WT is listed by BLACK+DECKER support at 4,100 BTU/h DOE and 8,000 BTU/h ASHRAE 128. Its current brand-page title rounds the lower value to 4,000 while its body says 4,100. For a strict minimum, its exact support article supplies a DOE value that can be used, with the title/body discrepancy noted. It meets a 4,000-BTU/h DOE threshold but not 5,000.
BPACT10WT’s exact support article says 10,000 BTU/h ASHRAE 128; the current brand page’s title and body give different lower figures and neither explicitly labels its lower number as DOE/SACC in the inspected sources. Its standardized capacity remains unknown in the matcher. A 10,000 ASHRAE headline cannot be substituted for a 5,000- or 8,000-BTU/h SACC requirement. That is an evidence limit, not a conclusion that the unit cannot cool.
Connected control and compressor features
BPACT08NM is the only one of these three whose exact product information explicitly lists an inverter compressor, Wi-Fi app control and Alexa/Google Assistant voice control. The exact manual explains pairing, shows this model number in app setup and lists the Wi-Fi band. The product overview image is associated with a model-specific manufacturer video, but that staged image does not demonstrate operating performance. Neither inverter labeling nor app capability proves a particular electricity saving or measured quietness.
BPACT08WT and BPACT10WT include a full-function remote and top display, but the inspected exact sources do not list their app control or inverter feature. If connected operation is essential, treat those as not confirmed rather than assuming they share the 08NM feature set. The remotes are not identical evidence of smart functionality; the app and voice requirements distinguish the 08NM.
Window fit and handling can reverse a capacity choice
The paired 08WT/10WT manual documents a standard 20.5–59-inch slider range. It permits trimming for a smaller opening but gives no numerical lower limit once modified. BPACT08NM’s own manual instead gives a standard 26.5–48-inch range, with the same caveat about trimming below the stated minimum. So the 08WT/10WT pair have a wider documented standard range at both ends, while the 08NM does not span a 50-inch opening using its listed standard kit and is not the best paper fit for a 20-inch opening. Measure the usable sash/track after seals and hose routing, not just the nominal window width.
Model dimensions and weights also differ. BPACT08NM is listed at 17.4 × 13.74 × 28.7 inches and 55 pounds. BPACT10WT is 15.3 × 14 × 24.8 inches and 47.3 pounds. BPACT08WT’s exact manufacturer sources disagree on weight (45.8 versus 52.9 pounds), so do not rank it as the lightest for a stair or lifting limit. All require sufficient clearance for airflow and a workable single-hose route; a compact cabinet alone does not make the installation fit.
Operating and upkeep plan
All three are cooling-only configurations, each with a single exhaust hose and an included window kit. The exact manuals direct the hose outdoors for cooling and dehumidifying and disconnect it for fan-only operation; the 08NM manual also lists Auto mode. Automatic water evaporation does not guarantee drain-free use under every humidity condition. Each manual explains a full-tank alert and gravity drainage; none of these exact sources establishes a lift pump. For continuous Dry operation, plan a downhill route to a floor drain or safe collection point. Filter intervals differ: the 08NM and 08WT manuals specify weekly cleaning, while the 10WT manual specifies its own product-specific filter instructions. Follow the model’s own manual rather than copying a care interval across suffixes.
Which matches a real need?
Pick BPACT08NM when 8,000 SACC/CEC, app/inverter features and a 26.5–48-inch standard opening all fit, and you can accommodate a 55-pound cabinet. Pick BPACT08WT when its explicit 4,100 DOE tier is enough and its wider standard slider span is more useful; its weight and refrigerant evidence remain conflicted. Do not choose BPACT10WT merely because the ASHRAE headline is higher; request an exact EnergyGuide or rating-label evidence if a minimum SACC is essential. None is a match for essential heat, a verified condensate pump, or a strict sound/CEER requirement because those facts are absent or heat is explicitly unsupported. If a window, capacity or feature does not meet a required condition, a different documented model is a better answer than forcing one of these three into the plan.
